The holiday is called Hangul Day (or Hangeul Day).
It is a national holiday in South Korea celebrated every year on October 9th.
Hangul Day commemorates the invention and proclamation of Hangul, the native alphabet of the Korean language, by King Sejong the Great.
It celebrates the excellence, originality, and scientific design of the writing system. Hangul was proclaimed in 1446 and was originally called Hunminjeongeum.
