What was your impression of the Olympic Games you witnessed?
Please describe in words the most moving moment you experienced beyond the screen.
βΈοΈπ
I've watched many competitions at these Olympic Games, but what we experienced last week with American figure skater Maxim Naumov was, without a doubt, the most touching moment of Milan-Cortina 2026. He gave me one of the most moving moments when he dedicated his short program to his deceased parents.
I dare say it's one of those stories that forces you to reflect on how fleeting life is and our capacity to turn tragedy into an opportunity to continue giving our best.
For those who don't know the context, Maxim lost his parents just a year ago in a tragic plane crash. His parents weren't just anyone; they were Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, legends of figure skating and Olympic athletes in the 90s. Maxim not only lost his family, but also his mentors and coaches.
The day Maxim took to the ice to skate to the song βIn This Shirtβ (a ballad about loss and the voids we leave behind) was both powerful and courageous. It wasn't a perfect routine; he fell twice on his quadruple jumps. But you know what? Nobody cared about the score. When he finished, the entire stadium rose to its feet to give him one of the longest ovations I've ever heard. It was a truly beautiful moment.
This story has made me reflect deeply on our parents and their legacy. Sometimes we take for granted the time we spend with our parents or the lessons they try to pass on to us. Maxim is in Milan today, fulfilling a dream that began with them, running the academy they founded, and skating with their photos displayed in the starting area. He is living proof that what we learn from those who love us is our true armor when life gets tough.
We've been taught that in sports, winning gold is what matters, but Maxim reminded us that true triumph is rising from adversity and moving forward. It is undoubtedly a lesson in resilience and a reminder that honoring our parents is the greatest victory of all.
I cordially invite ,
, and
to participate.
