The Gathering of Nations takes place on the last weekend of April and is one of the largest pow-wows in North America. It is held at the Pow Wow Grounds at Expo NM/Tingley Coliseum and is also considered one of the most popular Native American events in the United States.

El Encuentro de Naciones se celebra el último fin de semana de abril y es uno de los pow-wows más grandes de Norteamérica. Tiene lugar en el recinto Pow Wow Grounds de Expo NM/Tingley Coliseum y también se considera uno de los eventos nativos americanos más populares de Estados Unidos .

Each year, tens of thousands of people from over 750 tribes across North America flock to this three-day festival to watch thousands of Native American traditional dancers and singers compete for prizes and participate in other events. It is a transformative event for everyone involved and an experience that must be lived to be fully appreciated. This event began unofficially in 1983 at the University of Albuquerque in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The following year, the event adopted the name Gathering of Nations Powwow and was held at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds, on the horse track, for two years.

However, this venue proved too small for the event, which grew each year. Consequently, it was temporarily relocated to the University of New Mexico's basketball arena.
In 2017, the event returned to the New Mexico State Fairgrounds and was held at the newly constructed Pow Wow Grounds, which included the Tingley Coliseum.
One of the main attractions of the Gathering of Nations is Stage 49. This stage features traditional and contemporary artists performing rock, blues, country, hip hop, and other genres. It also includes traditional roving groups from across the Pow Wow Grounds. There is also a merchants' market offering the finest Native American crafts, jewelry, art, fine clothing, food, and much more.

It just may be worth your time to visit the Castle and come check us out. Unlike the 'Addams Family' shows, all of this is live, unrehearsed and not recorded before any audience. Funny things happen. Sad things happen. Smiles and tears get shared. Worries and hopes are passed around. Sometimes, we even eat #pizza, cake and ice cream. Sometimes, we watch movies. Sometimes, giant insects attack the microphones and we have to get out our silly swatters and smack 'em up so we have something to snack on because the popcorn got eaten already by little slugs that left slimy trails everywhere and made the sidewalks slippery so that the pancakes didn't get enough traction on our canoes to steer the spaceships. Exactly.
