World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20th every year and its sole purpose is to recognize the importance of bees and other pollinators worldwide.
Bees are essential for pollinating not only our gardens and orchards, but also our fields. It is estimated that approximately one-third of the crops consumed globally require pollination by honeybees.

This holiday was created on September 15, 2014, by the Slovenian beekeeper Boštjan Noč.
May 20 was chosen as the date for this holiday because it is the day the Slovenian Anton Janša was born in 1734. Janša was a painter and beekeeper, known as one of the pioneers of modern beekeeping and one of the world's leading experts on the subject.
