I have found, quite by accident (aren't so many of the best things ever found done so by accident?) a very interesting feature of cheap dollar store candles; they melt into the most amazing shapes.
I had bought these cheap dollar store candles some time ago to use as a light source for some lowlight photography. They also happened to be scented as fresh linen. I didn't think much of it at the time when I was using them for light, but a couple weeks ago I lit one on my desk to use as an air freshener. (side note: dollar store candles don't really have much of an intense aroma; they were easily overpowered and put up no fight at all to my dog passing gas).
When it had melted down to the desk, though, I found that I really, really liked the shape. It looked like a friendly single eyed ghost floating through the sky; Caspar the Friendly Cyclops Ghost, perhaps. It made me want to melt another one. So I did.
This one was less ghost and more blobbish, I suppose. Or maybe greasy-oil-tycoon-tripple-chinnish. I'm on the fence with this, but I'm still fascinated by it.
This third is simple: this is straight up spilt (spilled?) milk.
This was the last of the four that I burned/melted. I'm not sure if this one has any particular shape at all other than 'melted wax' which, honestly, would probably make a good title.
