I have always had a belief that the sharing of blessings remove a multitude of sin. A persons willingness to help others should be genuine in nature and seen through ones selflessness. This is something that I have tried to live by, as moral fiber is an important value and success is best seen shared amongst many. I believe that I have always tried to help others, but with the move from the UK to the Philippines in 2016 and the start up of my own businesses, it became something that I could do more. I became part of the Rotary Club here in Calbayog (The Local Town where I now live, in Western Samar, Philippines) and was extremely active on missions. As one of my main businesses was in the Food Industry, I could actively take part in all aspects, the preparation, cooking and distribution amongst less fortunate communities. There was most definitely a different feeling of satisfaction knowing that you had helped others. Here are some of the Missions that I was involved in.
This is Angelo, he was 10 years old at the time and had Multiple sclerosis, he lived in a Barangay called Palanas. He was not able to walk and we provided him with a wheelchair as well as some stationary as he was extremely active at school, but due to his condition and lack of transportation could not attend the better schools within the City.
This is (Another Splinterlands Player) and
giving a snack called Lugaw (Rice Based, like savory Porridge) to our local schools in the area.
SPED is the local school for children with special needs. This was an eye opener, I met a lot of children, innocent and happy and just getting on with it, This was just before Christmas, we brought them all small gifts, some food and lots of Candies. The foreigner in the Photo is one of the parents, very pleasant and active in helping, he often donates to the school.
This is some of our Expat Community in Calbayog, can be seen in the photo. We often congregate in my bar every Wednesday. There was a Fire that broke loose in a Barangay nearby and many people lost there homes. We as a Community offered assistance. We put together almost 180 relief packs containing, Rice, Tin Foods, water, clothing and other essentials. The Expat Community here is very close.
There are many more missions that I would love to share with you perhaps, another time, now I would like to explore how Splinterlands entered into the Fray, and became a way in which we could help our community. The pandemic hit the Philippines harder than expected, Towns were on lockdown, Businesses forced to Close, and Curfews put in play. It was a horrible experience to be confined to your surroundings and unable to venture outwards. Splinterlands became my stress reliever as well as another way to help those less fortunate.
Splinterlands, being a Play to Earn game, has obvious reasons behind helping a person, of course during the boom it was all monetary. I am an avid gamer by heart, and when had approached me regarding Crypto, honestly I was falling asleep. When he mentioned there was a game that was similar to MTG and involved in Crypto, that is when I woke up excited and gave it a try. A year and half later, I only play Splinterlands.
We Held Splinterlands meetups in my Restobar called Mango Lounge & Estates and were able to attract quite a large Community, we would host live tournaments and put up some awesome prizes. which were at the time cards, packs, DEC and even SPS. We helped many to invest into liquidity pools and SPS staking, the thought process of Staking, for Filipinos is like "Saving for a rainy day", non existent usually, and a new concept for our community to comprehend. I even accepted DEC as payment for Food & Beverages to create utility.
I was able to connect with and
who offered support whilst we were actively promoting Splinterlands, it was great. I even connected with
(He was the person that founded Splinterlands PH Facebook Group with over 40,000 members) and we actually met up and shared similar visons of Team Philippines and are now working side by side to promote Splinterlands throughout the country.
As of now, TeamPH has a lot of initiatives in play for our ever growing community, we plan to be around this Eco System for a very long time, we learn as we go, and are appreciative of all the help given. I would like to give a special thanks to for giving me knowledge regarding PeakD as well as having the patience to help the whole of our community, and to
for getting into Splinterlands in the first place. I have been inspired to write again and I hope that this will have a ripple effect amongst our community so that they may also share their experiences. For now, this is @Mangomayhem signing out, see you on the battlefield!
