I could easily start talking about my wife and how much she has inspired and taught me over the last three and a half years. But that wouldn't be entirely accurate, since I have many more years of experience in my career.
I was fortunate enough to begin my literary career at the fantasy and science fiction writing workshop Espacio Abierto. Therefore, I had several mentors and sources of inspiration. However, I'm only going to mention two of them. I'm doing so because each of them taught and inspired me in different ways. Each one gave me lessons, not only for my writing, but for life itself.
The first of them is my mentor, Eduardo Heras León, the founder of the Onelio Jorge Cardoso Center for Literary Training.
Beyond narrative techniques, Professor Heras taught me that literature is something that serves us for life. He taught me that being a writer is a full-time career. He taught me that ethics, discipline, and respect are essential qualities for human beings.
If we are not ethical, disciplined, and respectful in life, we will not be so in literature, and therefore, we will never get anywhere in this career; much less as people.
I spoke about the other person the other day: Stephen King. Without a doubt, he is a role model for every writer: talented, prolific, successful, etc. He has everything a young writer needs. He even has his own book, On Writing, the bible for aspiring writers.
It was my go-to book for years. When I thought I had no future, that a thousand things had happened to me that “no one else has ever experienced,” King had already written about that topic and offered a solution. The famous writer showed us how he came from nothing and built a name for himself through hard work and sacrifice.
That, and more, are the lessons and inspiration, but above all, the hope that Stephen King gives me through his work and his example.

Pudiera perfectamente ponerme a hablar de mi esposa y lo mucho que me ha inspirado y enseñado en estos últimos tres años y medio. Pero no sería totalmente correcto, ya que llevo muchos años más de carrera.
He tenido la suerte de haber comenzado mi carrera literaria en el taller de literatura fantástica y de ciencia ficción Espacio Abierto. Por tanto, tuve varios maestros y fuentes de inspiración. Sin embargo, voy a mencionar solo a dos de ellos. Lo haré porque cada uno de ellos me enseñó e inspiró distintas cosas. Cada uno me dio enseñanzas, no solo para mi literatura, sino para la vida en sí misma.
El primero de ellos es mi Maestro Eduardo Heras León, el fundador del Centro de Formación Literaria Onelio Jorge Cardoso.
El Maestro Heras, más allá de técnicas narrativa me enseñó que la literatura es algo que nos sirve para toda la vida. Me enseñó que el escritor es una carrera a tiempo completo. Me enseñó que la ética, la disciplina y el respeto son cualidades imprescindibles para el ser humano.
Si no somos éticos, disciplinados y respetuosos en la vida, no lo seremos en la literatura, y, por tanto, nunca llegaremos a ningún lado en esta carrera; y mucho menos como personas.
De la otra persona, hablé los otros días: Stephen King. Sin duda alguna, para todo escritor es un modelo a seguir: talentoso, prolífero, exitoso, etc. Tiene todo lo que un escritor joven necesita. Incluso, tiene su libro Mientras escribo, la biblia del escritor novel.
Fue mi libro cabecera durante años. Cuando creía que ya no tenía futuro, que me habían pasado mil cosas que “a nadie más le ha pasado”, ya King había escrito sobre ese tema y dado una solución. El famoso escritor nos mostró cómo vino desde abajo y se labró un nombre a base de trabajo y sacrificio.
Esa y más, son las enseñanzas y la inspiración, pero, sobre todo, la esperanza que me da Stephen King con su obra y su ejemplo.
