In Nigeria we don’t really have much festive celebrations though(from my own point of view, others might feel different 🧞♀️🤷🏽♀️)
Soo, there is new year, Easter 🐣, and then Christmas. There are also other celebrations like; independence, sallah( these are not as pronounced or prominent as the above)
Now, in some countries, there are these same holidays; Christmas, easter, new year, but there are also other holidays like Halloween, thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s day ☘️ Martin Luther King Jr Day etc

I wish we could have more pronounced celebrations here in Nigeria. You can call it me wanting to have more lazy days but I jusy feel the holdays we have over here are not enough for how much we stress ourselves in this country trying to make ends meet 😫
Soo, for us in our family, as I think is the same with ofher Igbo Nigerian families, the Christmas period is the one time of the year we actually fully unwind and rest from the stress of work accumulated throughout the year
Most families, including mine tend to travel to the village Christmas time as a kind of tradition to rest from work stress and also school stress then. We get to see our family members we don’t see easily and catch up on lost times
This is like a tradition that was made even before I was born, nowadays though it’s not as fun as it used to be though(maybe it’s just me 🤷🏽♀️)
Ahhh traveling to the village back then was soo fun. Even the d day of traveling, the thought of the long journey always made me giddy with excitement 😁🥹(maybe it was the thought that I would get to sleep as long as possible though 😂).
On getting close to the house, the thoughts of cleaning that was to be done made the smile and excitement leave me immediately like magic 😫🥲 I definitely did not like
that part of the whole holiday
You can as well say the masquerades I was going to see when I get to the village was a plus as well

A Christmas memory that feels magical even now when I think about it was one Christmas we traveled to the village and my God father came to see us in the village after he had travelled to spain when I was 8 yrs old( I hadn’t seen him for upto 12yrs)
Here’s the thing, he didn’t tell me he was even coming yo Nigeria talk less of the village, but he had told the rest of the family( I guess he wanted to surprise me 🤷🏽♀️😊) well let’s just say it was a very happy reunion 🥺 ( I definitely did not shed tears 👀)
That was one Christmas memory that always puts a smile on my face whenever I think about it

Thanks for stopping by and taking your time to read 🥂
Till next time folks 🍸🍹
