These days in Holland the name ~ The Voice of Holland ~ and all programs made by John the Mol, are big news. The show probably airs in your country aswell and is one of our biggest export product all over the world. Its made by dutchies. We are big fans, we watch it on friday with the family. So for us the news was a surprise.
I made pictures form the Telegraaf and the Algemeen Daglad the newspapers we have at home to show how big the news is. An these pictures are from today and yesterday only.
Or was it?
We all know that ever since Harvey Weinstein in all countries the #metoo movement is bigger than ever. Which is a great thing in my opinion. Cause faul play or power sex play, is never allowed. But the fact that this program, The Voice , The Voice Kids and The Voice Senior are the biggest hits in Holland is that we are all flabbergasted, yet we all think that when all the rumours are true that the programs will never be the same. Maybe they we vanish from the television aswell.
On 17 August a producer of another program and another network than the producers from the voice, called the net where the Voice is produced that they had gotten complaints about the jury members and people behind the scenes that did things that are in the #metoo range and if they wanted to comment.
That’s when the news came out. And the ball is rolling ever since.
From that moment the bomb was dropped and the story spiralled. Employees, colleagues or participants and even jurors that have nothing to do with the scandal are giving their views, interviews and stories on tv, in the magazines and in podcasts. The case is huge!
Two coaches are somened by the prosecution and Jeroen Rietbergen is the first to fall, he left a statement that he needed therapy and made excuses but that even made it worse. If worse is even the word that can be used here. If things that happened ( sexual and intimidation ) than punishment is needed, NOW, but sentencing is already happening.
Power relations and contracts with certain extras are a thing in the corporate world aswell are certainly a lot more inthe open ever since #metoo but how sad is it that young girls, wanting to make it as a singer, get catched by these predictors. So they need to be punished.
I like to think it’s not true but with 40 ladies and girls ( under 18 years old ) have come forward it’s likely that we have Weinstiens aswell. Sadly as it is.
But all the newspapers, since Saturday are about the revolving Red chairs. We have a microphone so sing along with the voice on friday with the kids, I wonder if we can use it again soon.
It's good that the dark preditor pit is now opening but there will only be losers.
The micro phone is ours and is from the voice ! The Warehouse we shop at for the groceries was a sponsor of the show for one season and you could buy it there.
The newspapers are the subcriptions we have to the two biggest newspaper in Holland, the Telegraaf and the Algemeen Dagblad.
