If you had the power to create a single law in your country right now, what would it be?
Hello sagacious #ladiesofhive, trust your week is going well. I welcome you to my blog.
There is a popular saying that with great power comes responsibility. Therefore, if I had the power to create a single law in my country. That single law will be to sentence corrupt leaders to fifty-one years of imprisonment with hard labour.
I am from a developing country in Africa, where corruption has thrived since I was born. Recently, we have been tagged as the 12th poorest and 36th most corrupt nation on the earth, yet the Giant of Africa. The state of the nation has become one of pity and decadence because of the level of corruption. The state of the energy supply, roads, water, and housing, which are the basic amenities, is despicable. Youths and adults are running away from home, looking for greener pastures, even to neighbouring countries.
The education sector is in disarray, with no reliable curriculum to fight poverty and encourage skill acquisition and entrepreneurship. According to some fact-check-based online analysis, the rate of people looking to leave the country has increased to about 72% this year, while the poverty rate is estimated to be about 62% due to inflation.
The elections are alleged to be rigged, and there are claims that people's votes do not count. Worst still, when these leaders assume office, they take laws into their own hands and start embezzling funds here and there. Give highly paid job slots to their cronies and carry out low-quality projects, including roads. There have been a lot of cases of corruption in so many courts that have lingered for over ten to twenty years. Oftentimes, those individuals adjudged corrupt get freed and still find their way back to the system. What a country!

So, if I had the power to create a single law in my country, it would be to sentence corrupt leaders to fifty-one years' imprisonment. I will make sure that the process is fast and furious. They wouldn’t escape justice and find their way back to the system. Once scapegoats are made, the whole system will adjust and be sanitized. There would be accountability and integrity in the execution of duties.
Furthermore, individuals will begin to respect laws, processes, and procedures. There would be serious progress and a turnaround in governance. People will enjoy the benefits of good governance and the basic amenities.
The era of mediocrity in governance, anything goes, and business as usual would remain in the past, while there would be a rebirth of a new country of my origin.
