Hello to everyone in the Ladies of Hive community! Today I bring a new story to share here and yesterday I was visiting the Art Rooms of Sidor, here in Puerto Ordaz and it was nice to find that not only there was a painting exhibition dedicated to the plastic artist, Aldo Scarani, but I also met two really extraordinary people; the theater actor, Mr. José Collazo and the theater actor/plastic artist, Miguel David Martínez, better known among the guayanes as El Poeta (The Poet). So join me in this story.
Since I met Puerto Ordaz, back in 2017, I remember that I found it a really nice city because it is a quiet place, surrounded by buildings, red earth and friendly people. There are several things to see from the center of the city, from Cachamay to La Llovizna. But I noticed something that I found incredible and that is that there were not enough spaces for the arts. At that time I wanted to attend cultural events; dance, theater, painting/sculpture expositions, music, etc. There were only Sidor's Art Rooms and they were not open.

El día de hoy traigo una nueva historia para compartir por aquí y es que ayer estuve visitando las Salas de Arte de Sidor, aquí en Puerto Ordaz y fue agradable encontrar que no solo había una exposición de pintura dedicada al artista plástico, Aldo Scarani, sino que también me encontré con dos personas realmente extraordinarias; el actor de teatro, el señor José Collazo y el actor de teatro/artista plástico, Miguel David Martínez, mejor conocido entre los guayanes cómo El Poeta. Así que acompáñame en esta historia.
Desde que conocí Puerto Ordaz, por allá en el 2017, recuerdo que me pareció una ciudad realmente linda pues es un lugar tranquilo, rodeado de edificios, de tierra roja y de personas amenas. Hay varias cosas por ver desde el centro de la ciudad, de Cachamay hasta la Llovizna. Pero pude notar algo que me pareció increíble y es que no existían espacios suficientes para las artes. Para ese tiempo yo deseaba asistir a eventos culturales; danza, teatro, exposiciones de pintura/escultura, música, etc. Sólo existía las Salas de Arte de Sidor y no se encontraban abiertas.
Today, after six years, I have returned to Puerto Ordaz and after settling down and leaving several things ready, I went for a walk with my partner to finally give us a space to entertain ourselves. There near our home, between Los Olivos and Alta Vista, is the Sidor Art Gallery and to our surprise, it was open and there was an exhibition of paintings by the artist I mentioned above, Aldo Scarani. I did not know him but Mr. Collazo showed up to tell us a little about the artist.
He told us that the artist is from Uruguay and came to Bolivar to stay. In fact, he lives just a few blocks away. And during some trips he made to Margarita and the Orinoco/Caroni areas, he took the opportunity to make some of the paintings you see in this publication. Characterized by a strong impressionistic style, Scarani presents landscapes, still lifes and captures the everyday life of the people of Guyana (fishermen, street vendors, shoppers, spectators, etc.). Collazo explains that although Scarani has no formal studies in the arts, he handles color very well and has made painting a passion.
Hoy, luego de seis años, he vuelto a Puerto Ordaz y tras haberme establecido y dejar varias cosas listas, salí a dar un paseo con mi pareja para poder por fin darnos un espacio para entretenernos. Allí cerca de nuestro hogar, entre Los Olivos y Alta Vista, se encuentran las Salas de Arte de Sidor y para nuestra sorpresa, se encontraba abierta y había una exposición de pintura del artista que mencioné arriba, Aldo Scarani. Yo no lo conocía pero el señor Collazo apareció para hablarnos un poco sobre el artista.
Nos contó que el artista es de Uruguay y llegó a Bolívar para quedarse. De hecho, vive cerca del lugar a tan solo unas cuadras. Y durante algunos viajes que realizó a Margarita y a las zonas del Orinoco/Caroní, tomó la oportunidad para realizar algunas de las pinturas que ven está publicación. Caracterizado por un fuerte estilo impresionista, Scarani presenta paisajes, bodegones y captura la cotidianidad de los guayaneses (pescadores, vendedores ambulantes, compradores, espectadores, etc.) . Collazo nos explica que aunque Scarani no tiene estudios formales en artes, maneja muy bien el color y a hecho de la pintura, una pasión.
We also met Mr. Miguel David, who is a very charismatic and warm person. He let us know that although the scene in Puerto Ordaz is perhaps not the best, we could enjoy a few more things in San Felix, Ciudad Bolivar and Unare. The two of them, Collazo and Martinez, are looking for a way to open more spaces for the arts and finally make it possible for people to have a place where they can enjoy it.
The most touching moment of the day was definitely when Mr. Miguel presented us with a sword made entirely by him from resources he obtains from palms and trees. He will soon be making an iconographic exhibition where he will present different weapons that pay homage to Manuel Piar and his many battles (24 in total). He also told us about his participation as co-star in the Venezuelan film, El Salto de los Angeles, directed by José Miguel Zamora Figuera.
También encontramos en esa tertulia al señor Miguel David, quién es una persona bastante carismática y cálida. Nos hizo saber que aunque la movida en Puerto Ordaz es quizás no la mejor, sí que podíamos disfrutar de algunas cosas más en San Félix, Ciudad Bolivar y Unare.La cuestión está en buscar. Ellos dos, Collazo y Martínez, están buscando la forma de abrir más espacios para las artes y hacer que por fin, las personas tengan un lugar propicio para ello.
El momento más conmovedor del día fue definitivamente cuando el señor Miguel, nos obsequió una espada hecha totalmente por él a través de recursos que obtiene de las palmas y árboles. Él dentro de poco estará haciendo una exposición iconográfica dónde presentará distintas armas que hacen homenaje a Manuel Piar y sus muchas batallas (24 en total). Además nos habló sobre su participación cómo coprotagonista en la película venezolana, El Salto de los Ángeles, dirigida por José Miguel Zamora Figuera.
This project has been in the works since 2017 and this year it can finally materialize. It has a date for October and I look forward with great enthusiasm to see it in theaters in the country. They have also commented that thanks to the intervention of Venezuela Film Hub, the film was able to obtain co-production financing from the Cannes Film Festival. Thanks to this, post-production was carried out. Mr. Miguel is proud of his work and not for less, so here concludes this beautiful story that I hope will not be the last and that there will be more encounters because we agreed to meet again and share a get-together with coffee and lots of art. Este proyecto a estado en marcha desde el año 2017 y este año por fin podrá materializarse. Se tiene fecha para Octubre y espero con mucho entusiasmo poder verla en las salas de cine del país. Ellos han comentado además que gracias a la intervención de Venezuela Film Hub, la película pudo obtener el financiamiento de la coproducción del Festival de Cannes. Gracias a ello la postproducción se llevó a cabo. El señor Miguel está orgulloso de su trabajo y no es para menos, así que aquí concluye está linda historia que espero no sea la última y que hayan más encuentro pues quedamos en reunirnos de nuevo y compartir una tertulia con café y mucho arte.
