Why do you think society places such a high value on beauty when it serves no functional purpose?
I think that today the desire to obtain a "beauty" imposed by the society in which we live where filters, and image editors, are used has gone too far to the point that many people disassociate their true identity with the one they decided to show on their social networks.
I also believe this "beauty" that is imposed on us as a method of presentation, makes people another product for the visual enjoyment of the market, embedded in our minds through all the bombardment of stereotypes of beauty in the media like TV, social media, etc; which seems somewhat repulsive.
We, as part of said society, contribute to this problem, since we buy and accept the idea that in order to appreciate objects and people, they have to look a certain way, let's say beautiful, good looking, presentable, without even looking at their real value.
In my opinion, accepting these types of ideas, instilling them and disseminating them in our lives, more than giving us satisfaction, affects us in a terrible emotional and psychological way, especially those people who are developing their personality, tastes and identity.
However, it is important to mention that beauty or beautifying ourselves is not a bad thing, what is bad is using it to define the value of things and even worse, the value of people.
Each and every one of us has a unique beauty, and knowing that the only acceptance we should expect is that of our own eyes and understanding that our value as people goes beyond the acceptance and criteria of society.
Do not forget that you are valuable and that beauty is subjective
