Hi,
This post is about the LoH contest about this subject "Are you a fan of horror movies, action movies, or are you more into romance? Tell me about a movie that taught you an important lesson".
I seldom get time to watch movies. I love science‑fiction films but I am also a fan of action and biopics. I have watched the Hollywood movie The Nun, and recently I watched its second part, The Nun 2.
Normally movies, especially horror movies - should be watched with some caution, because their narratives can influence people who are not fully aware of how fictional they are. These movies contain imaginary stories and unrealistic elements that some people try to imitate. Horror movies that portray witches are particularly troubling to me. They often depict women as wicked or demonic. I have read about the Middle Ages when people, especially women, were tortured and even burned alive on accusations of practicing witchcraft. In medieval Europe, thousands of women were executed simply on suspicion of involvement in witchcraft. These movies are harmless if people watch them purely for entertainment, but they become harmful when viewers start believing that witchcraft is real and that those women who were killed during the middle ages were truly “witches.”
Sometimes I wonder how deeply such movies can affect an innocent mind. They glorify the killing of witches and demons who do not even exist. In a way, they seem to justify the actions of the Church, which ordered the execution of women like Joan of Arc after accusing her of practicing witchcraft. These films spread hatred toward people who were actually victims. They also encourage superstition and make people less rational. You may have a different opinion, and I respect that, but I believe these concerns are real and justifiable. Movies that portray women as witches are derogatory for all the women of this world.
I am also a religious person but I am not a dumb practitioner. I believe that movies and literature should make people more rational and clear their minds. I know the contest is about the lessons that one learned from the movies. But this matter is also important.
With care from Erica.
