In the past, let me say I didn't have as much knowledge and awareness as I do now. Then I will not pay attention until something hurts me. From body pain to headache to cough to stress, which can suddenly make me serious about water and rest. But on a regular day, I usually live as if my body is a fortified rock because I usually forget to eat because I have a lot of things to attend to. I do stay up late till the dead of the night doing another work. Yet I wake up so early again and feel so tired with a headache, yet I behave like all is fine as I carry on with my day.
Though in my house, we hardly fall sick, so no one really cares if something is wrong or not, so most of the things I often hear are “You need to get some rest” when I am very weak and stressed out.
Nobody teaches you how to take care when nothing is wrong. In my house, you only hear “go and rest” when you are already weak. Strength is almost treated like permission to ignore yourself. So because we are strong, I guess that gave us a lot of reasons to neglect some things at times.
So when I became more aware, I read up and watched some videos on how to take proper care of myself. I did not wait till I broke down before I started drinking at least four bottles of water every day, even when I am indoors and not thirsty. I still force myself to sleep. Unlike before, when I often slept late and denied myself sleep, now I let nature take control, and I sleep off at night even when I am in the middle of something or doing something more interesting with my phone. And I have learned to always take some work within my compound just to allow blood to flow appropriately and sit alone and away from sometimes noise to cool down my brain.
Though when I started all these, my body wanted to reject it because it looked strange and like I was overdoing it, but since I have started, I have felt a big change in my body. No constant headache and back pains, and to be honest, I have realized that taking care of myself should not just be when I am weak, but it's something I must keep doing. So my daily healthcare routine is just simple for now, though I'm planning to add some indoor body workouts to it.
Thank you for reading.
