If adulthood had a theme song, mine would be a dramatic violin playing in the background while I try to remember if I actually brushed my teeth or just thought about brushing them. Mental health in an ever-changing world? My people, some days I am like a calm river flowing peacefully. Other days, I am like Lagos traffic on a rainy Friday when a trailer has just blocked the road.
Usually, I cope by creating small moments that remind me that I am human and not a permanently logged-in-email address. I take walks, even if it is only from my bedroom to my kitchen, pretending it is a wellness retreat. I journal, because sometimes speaking to paper is easier than explaining to people why I suddenly want to relocate to a quiet Island where no body knows my name.
Prayer, laughter, music, drawing, and occasionally staring into space like a wise philosopher also help me. And when life becomes too loud, I mute everything and watch birds and nature on the Internet living their soft life with no bills.
