In all my years on earth, i have received advice in various ways both knowingly and unknowingly because i am someone that chooses to draw meaning from both my experience and people's experience. However, this prompts asks us to reflect on whom we have ever received the best advice from, the best advice I have ever received is from my mother.
My mother is a strong woman who has taught me many things while growing up in words and in actions. All over the years she has given me various advice for different occasions because it is necessary and the important to help me grow and be proud of my myself.
One of the best advice she has given me amongst others is that I should never lose myself trying to please others. This advice was born out of the fact that as a mother who loved her family very much had faced storms, trials and tribulations but in all she never allowed this moments to weigh her down rather she faced them calmness and forged on even when life tried to stop her.
Her advice was very vital in the sense that applying it to our contemporary world, because people seem to take advantage of others because they are kind and humble. Based on my experience with living with her she has taught me that i should never allow anything to break me but to stand firm and rebuild myself.
Another lesson or advice she always teaches especially when we are watching Nigerian movies is that we should never say "i would do anything" to anyone just for help or favor. You know, when you are watching movies or in reality people who wants to help you can make it difficult sometimes because they are in a position that has the connection to give you what you want.
The mistake people make a saying they can do anything just so that they can be helped, and in turn these people ask for ridiculous things such as sex, killing, betrayal and so on. My mother always advices us that whenever we make such statement it can bring about engaging in activity is that we would not find morally acceptable.
In conclusion, my mother gives the best advice to me and I respect them because they are not just words but actions that I have learnt over time by living with her.
