The contest #99 released a great prompt this week. Thanks to
We are already in September and soon it will be the last quarter of the year. Do you have a specific goal you want to achieve by the end of the year? Tell us about it and what you are doing or will do to achieve it.
There is one goal that stands out for me to achieve this year. Let me be clear this particular goal or objective was not directly my idea but I am working hand in hand with the owner to make this dream come through.
PROJECT "KEEPING HER SAFE"
What is this project all about?
In my country Nigeria, women go through all sorts of abuse concerning their body parts be it yellow, black, obese, fat, short, ugly, beautiful. Infact, everyone has been a victim of either verbal abuse, psychological or domestic violence. Then we came together to bring about the initiative of supporting a woman/ladies project which involves donating of sanitary towels to secondary school kids.
During an investigation to a local secondary school that has a high population of students both boys and girls of middle class family. We got to find out that 40% of girls engage in unhygienic ways of tending to their periods or menstruation. Most girls still used clothing materials and tissue papers that cannot absorb well to hold on menstrual bleeding for the duration of school hours.
We cannot blame them actually because most of them are victims of parental negligence or their parents are not viable enough to cater for such "expensive" luxury or they are just ignorant of good personal hygiene.

Periods are beautiful and should be handled with care
Yes, when I say expensive, the cost of sanitory towels are really out of line these days. Somehow after this project I think we should advocate for menstrual pads to be free for all women by the federal government. What used to cost #250($0.5) now goes for #700($1.5). This estimate simply means that ladies with heavy periods spend more or ×2 of the actual price.
So to achieve the desire of giving out sanitory pads to school students, we have made a open donation for people to sponsor the project, although not much is coming in as we still have 27days to go. We actually budgeted for 500 girls but with what is currently in the account, we can cater for 108girls.
A means to end period poverty is definitely one goal that will make me fulfilled for the rest quarter of this year.
I also have other goals like improving on my blogging capabilities, writing meaningful contents, increasing my leofinance hive power and also hive power to at least 500 by the end of the year.
In all, I would advocate that if you can afford it, just get a pack of pads for a girl you know can't afford it. Thank you.
