Hello, fabulous Ladies of Hive and of course to everyone :)
First off, Happy Women's Week (Month) to us all, women! Salute! I must say it is amazing and fun being one and connecting with others too.
I have read some days ago that March is Women's Month and glad that the amazing Ladies of Hive community moderators decided to initiate the prompts around it.
One of the questions resonated with me and brought me back to my first real job offshore many years ago where I had mixed feelings being in a foreign land, amongst foreign people who speak a different language that I didn't even know a single word of. But it was where I experienced some of the best and where I learned quite a lot in dealing with people.
And so in participation to this week's prompt, I opted to answer the second question:
You've just accepted a position at the company you desire to work for. You meet the educational requirements. However, what makes you confident you can handle the interpersonal demands the position requires? Cite three reasons and explain.
I used to be very shy and only talk when spoken to (it still sometimes happens to this day), but when it comes to the workplace, I behave quite differently. Somehow, my years of stay in other countries had done me well, arming me with some important and effective interpersonal skills, and that is why I am confident that I can handle the demands of whatever workplace I would find myself into.
And why do I say so?
First, I have genuine respect and empathy for others regardless of who they are or the position they hold.
I don't value or judge people based on their status, race, gender, age or whatever else that most used to gauge others. That is probably one of the reasons why I got along so well with the people in my previous workplaces because I make everyone around me feel equally important and empowered no matter their role in the company. I observed that conflicts are lessened when there is mutual respect no matter the differences in opinions or beliefs.
Having said this, it is worthy to note that we still need to set healthy boundaries too.
Secondly, I can communicate clearly and a good listener too.
These are some traits I learned while working in China where 95% of my colleagues didn't speak English and work differently too. Thinking now how I was able to survive in that environment astounds me. I guess I have acquired the ability to clearly send my message across to others, verbally or not. If I may add, at some point, I even learned how to use sign languages, lol!
Listening to what others say can be really challenging especially in this day and age where there are so much distractions around us, but I found it to be one of the effective ways in building trust and rapport within any workplace.
Third, I have a generally positive and cheerful attitude and love to add fun and some moments of play to brighten up the day.
I realized that most of us don't want our atmosphere to be really serious and dull. I think fun times bring out the best sides and beautiful quirkiness in people too. And yes, having a positive attitude is appealing to almost everyone because no one wants to spend time with one who becomes grouchy over little things.
Thank you heaps and Cheers!
It's been a while since I last participated in the #LOH challenges and I am glad to have come forward this week. The prompts just couldn't be missed. I invite you and
to come and share your thoughts on this challenge :)
