This week's questions are both interesting but I chose the second because it is closer to my heart :)
What are your thoughts of a "house husband?"
Would you be okay with a relationship where roles were reversed?
The "house husband" is not new to me, it is in fact a normal situation in our family. But even if it is not a norm, I don't have anything against it nor feel any oddity about it. So yes, I am definitely very okay with a relationship where the roles are reversed. I actually think it is sexy and adorable when a man works at home :)
We live in a world where people no longer frown upon men who are "house-bands" as we call it here and women out working in their professional fields. Well, at least that is how I see it here in our place. I'd say I have been exposed to such relationships, re:
- My sister's spouse is a "house husband" ever since they got married. The wife has a formal job so he's the one who takes good care of their house and runs their errands too, although when their 2 kids were still toddlers, they had a nanny so the husband didn't really get to experience being a full-time "house-band." He gets to go out any time of the day and was not tied doing chores inside their house. And it had been so for many years to this day, although he now monitors their businesses from time to time.
- For several years, my husband was also in the "house-band" club and I honestly loved it and I believe he enjoyed the role too. So you see, it's really normal for me. And it is still true today, most times he'd cook, do the laundry and other 'home duties' and of course, I do them too.
I do admire husbands who gracefully take the role as house husbands and give freedom to their wives to shine in their own professions. I am happy too that nowadays, not many bat an eye towards working women or men having the role as 'house-bands.' Time is changing and equality amongst men and women are at least observed. In most homes, household duties are shared between spouses and women are free to work for an income too. Wives and husbands do their own little ways to spoil one or the other which is really cool :)
