Just recently, I was invited to my friend's wedding and I was chosen to be one of her bridesmaids. Just when I thought, I'm passed the age of being one! ๐Nonetheless, I feel blessed and honored to celebrate her special day.
A month from the special occasion, her maid of honor rounded up all bridesmaids "virtually" to secretly plan a bridal shower. In the back of my mind, I said to myself "I think I've graduated from organizing bridal showers or even attending one..." I just feel a bit old for such things. Besides that, I was the only one coming from my place. I didn't know anybody else so I was not actively participating in the group chat.
I thought about not attending since my travel schedule was not yet decided but the Universe has other plans.
The group chat became inactive for about a month until a week before the wedding day that's when the maid of honor hit us up with a message once more and urged us this time to help her out as she was freaking out as the day was nearing. I know how stressful it is to organize events and so I finally gave in and participated a little bit in the planning. Since renting out a hotel room was more costly and there was a limit to the number of people, I suggested we rent a room at a karaoke place instead! That way, we could also have music and sing our hearts out. A bridesmaid volunteered to do the decorations. I also volunteered to bring a white dress for the bride to change in during the event and my camera + go pro to document our activity.
The day of the Bridal Shower came - a day before the wedding! Yep, everything was last minute since everyone else came from different places. It was only that day that we all met for the first and at the same time. Everything seemed to go as planned except for how we would bring the Bride to the location without giving out any hint of our surprise.
Funny thing though, during our wedding entourage rehearsal, the bride commented to the maid of honor how sad she was for failing to do that one thing she was expecting. ๐ While the other girls were panicking, I took it as an opportunity to bring her to the karaoke place. I played dumb and even said, "I think it was hard for her to plan something out since we didn't know each other and it was our first time meeting with the rest of the girls." Seems like the bride fell for it. Then I told her we just have a "girls' night out" instead. And she agreed.
When we arrived at the Karaoke venue called Blue KTV, the staff greeted us with "We are fully booked" although we have one room already rented. ๐ So the maid of honor made sure to went to the reception area alone to sort it out. We were then taken to our designated room. The bride was first to arrive at the door where she saw a piece of paper which wrote the name of the maid of honor. ๐ So much for playing dumb. Her eyes went wide and that's when we entered the room and shouted "Surprise!".
Well, just seeing the Bride's big smile was all worth it! She couldn't believe it! I guess we pulled this one successfully despite the little hiccup at the beginning.
After the initial reaction and laughter, we asked her to wear the white dress I brought while the rest of us changed into pink clothes and wore the bridesmaid sash. The other ladies then helped her wore the other accessories to complete the outfit.
We had a photoshoot and we can't stop teasing the bride to make some funny poses with the cake. She's a little bit reserved. We then had a quick dinner since we only had an hour and a half left before our time was up. Unfortunately, we couldn't squeeze in the singing since everyone else preferred dancing. Most of the girls were conservative and that's ok so I definitely showed them "how to dance like no one is watching!" ๐ Well, it was recorded but just for our keepsake. Something to talk and laugh about when we meet again someday!
I realized that I shouldn't have hesitated attending this surprise Bridal shower from the start since we had so much fun that night! I guess I kind of got used to being alone most of the time because of the pandemic that I forgot how amazing it is to be connected to other people in real life especially with women. Not only did we made the bride extremely happy, I and the ladies were grateful to have met each other and became friends onwards!
