In a society where women are still struggling to find their voice, it is important that every woman who wants to raise her head high just like the male counterparts should be intentional about it and by being intentional, it means that there are some things that you should do to achieve this. This is going to be a lot of work which includes unlearning to learn.
In my country (Nigeria), it takes a lot of courage as a woman to even want to mane up. Women barely own properties. And when a woman starts getting properties for herself, they call her a prostitute. It is mostly believed that women cannot achieve anything without the help of a man. A sad reality here but I am sure a lot of ladies here have faced some kind of devaluation from the society by way of tongue wagging.
Me on a movie set
My determination to break the jinx has gotten me to a place that I will say that I am proud of. I am from the Igbo speaking tribe of Nigeria and in my place, the place of a woman is in the kitchen. Her work is to bear children and take care of the home. The only work she can do out of the home is farm. Gradually it graduated to women owning shops and that was the highest level of achievement for the woman. I told myself as a child that I would achieve my dreams. I had always wanted to go into the media. I love broadcasting and also love to act. I am glad I took that journey to do what I really love.
Being a woman of value means that as a woman, you have to understand your self-worth. Knowing your worth as a woman will help you build your self-esteem. The way you keep yourself is the same way people will take you. So if you understand this point very well and raise your shoulders up, you won't be taken for granted. You also need to release your full potentials. Ask yourself, what can you offer? If the male counterparts come to have a conversation with you as a woman, are you capable of holding an intelligent conversation?
Me and my guest on a show
Never ever give up your dreams as a woman. Understand that you are first a human being before a woman. So think of achieving what you want as a human and don't look at what the society will say to you. Fight to have that degree, own that house, buy that car, start that multimillion business. Just like they say, "if you think it, you can achieve it".
Every woman here is valuable and beautiful. The society cannot stop us because we have all it takes to step out of that cage and be the best we can be.
