Hello everybody especially the Ladies Of Hive,
First of all I want to thank you for her questions of this week which are the following:
Are your hobbies different now then when you were a child or teenager?
Have you kept one or more hobbies through your life?
Tell us about them! Why do they satisfy you?
My answers:
My hobbies are crochet and photography. Crochet is the same when I was still a child, a teenager, when I was married and up to now. Photography just lately.
I started my first chain when I was 9 yrs old. I emulated my mother who crochet daily, accepted orders from her friends and walk ins upon visiting our house full of crochet decor from table runners, pillow covers, bed covers and curtains. My 3 aunt's of my father side were crocheters, too. Oh, and also my grandmother. It really runs in our blood.
I have tried macrame. When I was in 3rd year high school, my mother made macrame bags using Japanese cord but that was short lived or lasted only for 2 yrs. It was just a fad on those days.
In 1995 when I visited Sydney, Australia, an Australian friend taught me how to knit. She gave me knitting needles, but when I came back to the Philippines I forgot about it because all of my customized orders were crocheted items. So, really back to crochet.
My second love to do is photography. In 1984, when hubby came back from Brunei with his end contract he brought a handy automatic camera. Then that time he had geological survey project, he used the camera but many extra films. I went to my friends I told them I will shot them for free until the film consumed. After developing the film, I gave my friends their picture. They were happy because the quality of the pictures was good. Someone suggested why not make it as a business. Hmm, bright idea! Very timely that time hubby was jobless. So, I was a photographer in our area using a bicycle as my service. Many liked me as their photographer because I coached them how to posed gracefully plus my price was lower from existing photographers that time.
But, that was short lived also because I was preggy with my 6th child so, back to crochet again and just photograph my own works.
On photography my favorite subject to snap are flowers by the road side and sunset.
I made ref towels for sale by the dozen and quick easy to make items that time until 2012.
When our helpers neighbor chatted with me. She praised my work but told me why I made for everybody else but no items made for myself. She noticed in our house you can't see even a single doily because all I made were sold out. I realized what she said. From that time on I made tops and bags for my self.
I am satisfied with crochet because it is a versatile craft. You can crochet anywhere. You bring it along especially if you are waiting for someone or caught in a traffic.
It helps me a lot.It calms me and always makes me really very happy every time I finished an item plus it really helped with my financial needs. With affordable materials the crochet hook and yarns, make something out of it, sell it. Viola! Money always in your wallet. When no money problem then you crochet for your house decor visitors will surely praise your original masterpieces while crochet tops dressing up with our own brand.
That's my craft story.
