It is quite unfortunate that one of the disasters that lead to loss of properties and displacement of human is flood.
Though I would blame the government of day for this as it shows their incompetence in handling national problem. This issue has been out occurring yearly but this time around this is the worst of all.
The issue of flood has been on since the rainy period because Cameroon has issued out a warning to Nigeria that soonest as possible, their dam will be filled up and they have to close it and allow water pass down to us.
Though I don’t blame them because they are trying to prevent flood on their own side too.
But the government of Nigeria has refused to build a dam that can store this kind of water which may even be used as a recreational Centre for tourist attraction or even build fish pond as an advantage.
I went to Kogi of recent and what I saw, I couldn’t even take a photo of me and the flood because we were helping to rescue people.
Here is a picture of a vehicle submerged by flood.
Here are houses submerged too by flood up to roof level.
In fact some people who collected loan to start up a business got their plans cut short. I can remember a popular woman who recently built a hotel for entertainment purposes, right now as you reading this, the hotel isn’t in use because of flood. You can imagine if she had collected loan to do that.
What are the government plans
The government only evacuated people to IDP camps where there are thousands of people there though I went to the camp but they gave an instruction never to take photo of them or we experience violence.
But what I saw in the camp was overcrowding and people complaining of hunger and starvation because the food government gives doesn’t go round. Imagine man with family or even a widow with her children.
The government shows little support for those victims. They are only presenting budget up to trillions of naira without plan to curb flood disaster.
When I enquired about the flood there are some people who live in story building and they hope the flood doesn’t get to the height of their storey though the first has already been covered by flood.
My recommendation
It’s high time good governance comes in place. I can’t imagine the number of ladies that will get pregnant just because they want to find a place to stay, I can’t imagine a number of guys that will steal just to find a means of survival. Why is our own government we elected into power treating us this way?
I saw this and I can’t stop crying. Well, there are lots of people I know in Kogi that needs support. I have even emptied by bank account to ensure I help out with what they can even eat. They need your support and mine too. I have done the best I could do. I just wish our fellow ladies can offer help in rendering support to the victims too. They are humans like us.
