I was watching this Vtuber and she mentioned that she encourages people to track and use keyloggers on their own kids to monitor them and what they are doing. The weird part is, as she explained the logic, I somehow agree. The internet can be unpredictable, sometimes cruel and full of things no young mind should face alone. In trying to understand what tools are available, I also learned that some methods like keylogging, even if it's for your child's protection, cross legal lines. It left me sitting with a strange irony, "Why does the same system that tells you to safeguard your child can also limit how you are allowed to do it?" This is my rant for it in my own poetic way.
Would You Bend the Law To Protect Your Kids?
They tell you to guard young's fragile eyes,
From hidden threats and masked disguise.
To stand between them and the screen,
To keep their innocence squeaky clean.
They warn you of the danger and harm,
Of scams, grooming and subtle charm.
“Be vigilant,” the voices say,
“Protect your child in every way.”
So you read guides and search for means,
To filter words and block bad scenes.
Like protecting doors, you check the locks,
You measure their time in ticks and clocks.
But then you learn, lines cannot be crossed,
Despite the need and fear their loss.
Some tools you thought can be shields of care
Are branded wrong, "You're forbidden there."
The law draws borders, firm and wide,
Between protection and control applied.
It whispers, “Trust,” yet also, “Know,”
You start to do it, yet "That's not it though"
You stand between two steady fires
Your duty and the law’s desires.
One says, “Watch,” the other says, “Wait,”
One says, “Act,” the other wants to, “Regulate.”
You do not want to cage their breath,
Nor shadow every step they tread.
You only want to guard their space,
To keep the dark from what they face.
So tell me, when the internet is vast,
And dangers move both silent and fast,
How far am I really allowed to go
Before it’s too late,
When someone did to your kid
and you didn't know?
