This week's poem is a little grim but is also interesting. I was watching this anime called "Ascendance of a Bookworm." In the anime, the main protagonist, "Myne", had a sickness called "Devouring" which is untreatable and she would die in a year. That made me think. If you are going to die soon, would you want to know when? Would you rather know how much you have to live with your family or would you rather just live in peace not knowing when your life would end the future?
Would You Want To Know When You Would Die?
If someone told you the exact date,
Would you call it mercy? Would you call it fate?
A number fixed, a specific day,
Nothing to guess, nothing to say.
Would mornings change their usual pace,
If you could just finish the race?
Would coffee taste a little more,
If you knew how much was left in store?
Would fear grow sharp, dull, or thin,
If you knew the hour it all caves in?
Would courage bloom or panic stood,
Or would you hide it the best you could?
If love had edges clearly drawn,
A final dusk, a final dawn.
Would you hold tight or step away?
If one had to ask, what would you say?
Would you do everything now instead,
if you just know what’s ahead?
Would risks feel light or far too steep,
With a ticking truth you couldn’t keep?
Would sleep come easy every night,
Would everything still feel all right?
Would laughter ring a little strange,
When you know what to exchange?
If no one else could see your clock,
Would that secret shape your walk?
Once the silence weigh beneath your skin,
A quiet countdown deep within.
If the choice were yours to take,
To know when your life would break,
Would you reach out and ask God why,
Or leave it unanswered until you die?
