Let me tell you today about one of the most stressful days of my life – my "C" truck driving license exam.😄
From the moment I woke up, I felt like I had swallowed a brick. My stomach was tight, my nerves were screaming and my brain just gave up. It felt like I was about to take an exam to become a brain surgeon not a truck driver. 😅 The stress was so high that I started regretting ever signing up for the course! Really!!! But this was my dream that should just have the final countdown...
At the time (a few years ago) both theory and practical were done on the same day. Double the fun. 😅 And in Poland passing these higher license categories is very rare.... Out of 10 people maybe one or two pass and that’s on a good day! So I went in fully prepared… to fail.
There were 10 of us. After the theory part only three of us made it through: me, my friend from the course and some older man. The examiners already looked surprised. Three passing? That’s suspicious.😁 So for me one thing was clear ..... someone would have to go home crying.....
The older guy went first. Not perfect but somehow he made it. My course buddy went second — passed too. And then came me. Statistically speaking I was already in trouble. 😅 I was sure they’d fail me just to restore the natural balance of the universe. 😁
First task: reverse through a curve. Two attempts allowed. I started the first one… and forgot to take off the handbrake.😅 Truck stopped. Nice. The examiner calmly walked up and said, “That was your first attempt.” In his eyes I saw the question: “What is this blonde doing behind the wheel?”😂
Second attempt — I remembered the handbrake this time but my leg was shaking so badly I had no control over it! I didn’t know legs could tremble like that.😮 I somehow made it through the curve. Still not sure how...
Next task: angled front parking. This one actually went well. One shot, no drama - passed by the first attempt!
Then: hill start. My leg was still doing the samba and I tried to calm myself down and win some time by driving as slowly as possible, I approached the hill like a sloth on tranquilizers. The examiner probably wondered if I was afraid of gravity. 😂 I stopped… and started the car smoothly. Success! Or not.... He walked up and said :“I didn’t tell you to go yet.” That one didn’t count. Oh no! 😔
Attempt two? I panicked and messed it up. Attempt three? Success - don't know how till now....
In the end all three of us passed the yard. It was already a miracle! But now came the final boss: the city road test.
The older man went first — passed. My friend went — passed. I was now 99.9% sure I’d be sacrificed. 😅 But the moment I got on the road, something changed. The stress started to fade. I drove calmly and surprisingly well.
When we returned, the examiner looked at me and said:
“I was afraid to drive with you but you actually did really well!”
I was so happy!!!!
Later my friend told me the examiner had actually said before my test:
“What is doing that woman here? I’m scared to take her out on the road.” 🤣
Thanks for the vote of confidence, sir. 😂
In the end I not only passed — but I was told I did better than the two guys. I couldn’t believe it! My dream just came true!!
And just like that I started preparing for the next big challenge: C+E license.
But that’s a whole other adventure. 😉
