Hello friends, have you ever heard about World Hijab Day? Many of you probably have, but maybe others don't even know what a Hijab is and that's is something totally valid, but don't worry today we will be talking about this topic and why it's so important for many women around the world.
¡Hola amigos! ¿Han escuchado alguna vez acerca de El día Mundial del Hijab? Muchos de ustedes probablemente sí, pero tal vez otros ni siquiera sepan lo que es un Hijab y es algo totalmente válido, pero no se preocupen que el día de hoy estaremos hablando acerca de este tema y porque es tan importante para muchas mujeres del mundo.
The hijab is a veil-like garment that covers the head and chest of Islamic women, and is usually worn when they are in the presence of men outside their family.
El Hijab es una prenda de vestir tipo velo que cubre la cabeza y el pecho de las mujeres islámicas, y suelen usarla cuando están en presencia de hombres adultos ajenos a su familia.
There are many types of veils that Islamic women use according to their customs and preferences, but the most used is the Hijab that some women wear since puberty, and although the Koran (book by which Muslims are governed) doesn't define the use of this garment as mandatory but as recommended, many women wear it with pride as a reliable and tangible symbol of their faith. For them it signifies submission to Allah (God) and modesty, and is also a form of protection against unwelcome glances
Hay muchos tipos de velos que las mujeres islámicas usan según sus costumbres y preferencias, pero el más usado es el Hijab que algunas mujeres llevan desde la pubertad, y aunque el Corán (libro por el que se rigen los musulmanes) no define el uso de esta prenda como obligatorio sino como recomendable, muchas mujeres lo llevan con orgullo como símbolo fehaciente y tangible de su fe. Para ellas significa sumisión a Allah (Dios) y recato, además es también una forma de protección contra miradas inoportunas.
Due to the misinformation that there has been regarding this issue, many people believe that Islamic women are forced to wear the hijab, and maybe it happens in some cases, as it also happens that in other religions children are forced to go to church, to dress or eat in a certain way, but generally Islamic women wear the hijab by conviction and feel happy wearing it, Unfortunately those who live on the western side of the world, especially in the USA, Europe and Latin America, have been discriminated against for the use of this garment, some ask the girls to uncover their heads, deny them jobs and they even forbid little girls from entering schools because they claim that "That cloth" is not part of the regulation uniform.
Debido a la desinformación que ha habido respecto a este tema, muchas personas creen que las mujeres islámicas son forzadas a llevar el Hijab, y tal vez suceda así en algunos casos, como también sucede que en otras religiones se obliga a los niños a ir a la iglesia, a vestir o a comer de cierta manera, pero en términos generales la mujer islámica lleva el Hijab por voluntad propia y se siente feliz usándolo, aunque lamentablemente las que viven en el lado occidental del mundo, especialmente en USA, Europa y latinoamérica, han sido discriminadas por el uso de esta prenda, algunos les piden a las chicas que se descubran la cabeza, les niegan trabajo y hasta les impiden la entrada a los colegios a las niñas alegando que «Ese trapo» no forma parte del uniforme reglamentario.
Because of this, Muslim women have lived in an eternal struggle for their right to dress as they wish without being criticized or discriminated against, and their voices are becoming louder and louder as many other non-Muslim women have supported them and joined their struggle.
Debido a esto las mujeres musulmanas han vivido en una eterna lucha por su derecho a vestir como deseen sin ser criticadas o discriminadas, y sus voces cada vez hablan más alto debido a que muchas otras mujeres que no son musulmanas, las han apoyado y se han unido a la lucha.
World Hijab Day has been celebrated every February 1 since 2013 and emerged as an initiative of the Bangladeshi woman Nazma Khan. She wants the people of the world to stop perceiving the Hijabas an oppressive garment for women, and to start seeing it as a religious symbol and even as an icon of liberation (women should have the right to dress as they like)
El Día Mundial del Hiyab se celebra cada 1 de febrero desde el año 2013, y surgió como iniciativa de la mujer bangladeshí Nazma Khan. Ella pretende que las personas del mundo dejen de percibir al Hijab como una prenda opresiva para la mujer, y que comiencen a verlo como un símbolo religioso e incluso como un icono de liberación (la mujer debe tener derecho a vestir como quiera)
The idea is that every February 1 the women of the world regardless of their culture, nationality or religion (Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Shintoists, etc, even atheists) wear the Hijab in support of Islamic women who are still discriminated against in their work, on the street or in schools.
La idea es que cada 1 de febrero las mujeres del mundo sin importar su cultura, nacionalidad o religión (cristianas, judías, budistas, shintoistas, etc, incluso las ateas) usen el Hijab en apoyo a las mujeres islámicas que aún son discriminadas en su trabajo, en la calle o en los centros educativos.
And well, despite the fact that four days have passed since the commemorative date, I also wanted to join that campaign because it seems unfair that we still live in a world full of intolerance. Why is it so hard for some people to respect the opinions of others? Why reject other people just because they look or think different? and above all, why try to impose canons on them just so that they go in harmony with the rest?
Y pues, a pesar de que ya han pasado cuatro días desde la fecha conmemorativa, yo también quise unirme a esa campaña porque me parece injusto que todavía vivamos en un mundo lleno de intolerancia. ¿Por qué a algunas personas les cuesta tanto respetar las opiniones ajenas? ¿Por qué rechazar a otras personas tan solo porque se ven o piensan diferente? y sobre todo ¿por qué intentar imponerles cánones tan solo para que vayan en armonía con el resto?
Before rejecting people or giving opinions about what we don't know, I think it's better to try to understand them and learn from them, only then will we be culturally and intellectually rich.
Antes de rechazar a las personas u opinar acerca de lo que no sabemos, creo que es mejor intentar entenderlas y aprender de ellas, solo así seremos ricos cultural e intelectualmente.
