March 8th, International Women's Day //My entry for Ladies of hive community contest #73

In 1975, the UN set this date to commemorate the struggle women had been through and the many more we are still dealing with.

There's a difference between a celebration and a commemoration, today we commemorate all that has been achieved through time, knowing there's still a long road ahead of us but with confidence that each day more and more people, no matter the gender joins the fight for equality and keeps uplifting and honoring women all over the world.

Each day more and more women are acknowledged in all aspects of life, from staying at home, taking care of a family, to being head of a great company or being number one at a sport or particular activity. There's no doubt that women are capable of great things, however, the struggle continues, some places and cultures more than others.

Today, well, especially today i want to celebrate my best friend. A woman I admire and love with all my heart, she is more than a friend, she is family. She's gone through a lot of adversities, yet she manages to stay strong, focused, and always kind to those around her. To me, she is the perfect role model, and that's one of the reasons I picked her to be my baby girls' godmother. I know that if anything ever happens to me, she'll be there for the girls and give them all the love she has to offer them.

She's been there for me in ways no other has, when I was feeling all alone in the world, she helped me remember there's still a lot worth fighting for and helped me keep my sanity through my first pregnancy, I will be forever grateful to her for all of that
