My grandmother's name was Iris and since her birthday was May 26th, 1902, I can only assume that my gr. grandparents chose her name because the iris were in bloom in their garden on the day she was born.
I can't see these beautiful May blossoms without thinking of her. I don't have nearly enough photos of her, but in this old photo, she is holding my brother and am wearing a plaid shirt.
She shaped my life and instilled in me a love of nature. She taught me the names of birds and flowers and let me help plant the garden.
Since I lived just around the corner from her my whole life, she was my best friend throughout my childhood and she taught me to cook and it was all the stories that she read to me that caused me to grow up loving to read books.
She lived to see all three of my children and delighted in being a great grandmother.
When the iris bloom I bask in my memories of this woman who was such an inspiration to me.
