@LadiesofHive Community Contest #281 questions for the week are:
1οΈβ£ Do you prefer working from home or going to the office? Why? πππ / ππ ~2οΈβ£ Do you think working from home will improve your work-life balance? How?
When I was working in a full time job, my office had this provision of work from home when needed. It was a tier 1 IT company and they had many benefits for employees. The work from home felt like a blessing at that time. Because my son was young, still schooling, so during his exam time or other emergency time, the work from home facility was very helpful. But as much as I found work from home on certain time convenient I did not want to do it on full time basis, because it would disconnect me from the office dynamics.
Working in the office was always more disciplined for me because at home there were too many distractions. Other people at home would not fully comprehend with the idea of work from home, if they would find me home they would feel that I was on leave and was available to do things at home at any time, which was not the case. I do prefer work from home but on need based.
In the present day I have a part time job and it's majorly work from home, I visit the company one day in a week for couple of hours. Now the home scenario is different, it's only me and hubby, and he goes to work, so there is no disturbance or distraction. I have my space to work. In the present time I do prefer work from home. The only drawback is that yes, I do feel disconnected from the office environment, but at this stage I am ok with it. Now I do not have any of those corporate ambitions and aspirations of growth and promotion. I am happy with the part time work that I have, it gives me chance to pursue my other areas of interest, and hence I do prefer it.
I believe that both has it's advantages and disadvantages. Office work is disciplined and structured, also it gives a break from the same home environment, productivity gets better. Whereas from home there can be distractions if one does not have proper privacy to work. WFH is good when one needs to be home to tend to some emergencies, it saves your leaves and the work also gets taken care of. One has to be very disciplined whole choosing the work from home option. With WFH one can also save the travelling time to and fro office. My office was far from home and each way it was a travel of 1.15 hours, making it a 2.5 hour travel daily. The days I worked from home, I felt relaxed and saved so much energy and time.
A mix of both as needed is what I enjoy, I feel that is a good work-life balance where you have the liberty of working from home when needed and on other days going to office and staying connected with the office environment. It also gives a break from the same environment at home. Trust me work from home if done for a long time can make you feel very disconnected from the outside world.
