I am fond of watching movies and reading books both, and have a big library. There are many books which have intrigued me a lot and many movies as well. But there is this one movie that clearly stands out for me and has had an impact on me on some part of my life. This movie is "90 Minutes in Heaven". The story of this movie is that there is a Pastor, who meets with an accident and is pronounced dead, but he is revived back. When he comes back to life he speaks about how he encountered those 90 minutes in heaven while the time he was gone.
The experience of these 90 minutes is beyond words; he encounters intense joy and love with his loved ones on the other side. When he is brought back to life, all that he feels is suffering and misery. He is going through lot of physical pain, his leg is in compete shatter, he is not able to walk and for months he is living in pain going through extreme painful treatments. In this time, he feels miserable about coming back to life. He feels that he was happy on the other side and returning back has only brought him pain, not only to him but his family also.
For a long time, he has not spoken about this experience to anyone, then he decides to speak to it about his wife, the 90 minutes that he lived out of his body and what he felt in it. The wife is overwhelmed and then they talk about it to the another Pastor. During his treatment his pain makes him a very bitter person. Through his life he has only been helping and now he feels helpless and feels like he is a burden to his family.
That's when the Pastor counsels him, that the life he has got back is for a purpose and to recover he has to learn to receive help. All his life he has only helped others but never taken help from anyone, and this is also part of his learning. At first he has lot of apprehensions, slowly gradually the shift starts, he becomes more open to his family, talking about the pain and taking help from them to look after him. His healing starts from here on, physically and emotionally.
It is a very heart touching story, the change especially. I relate myself somewhere in this movie. One point of time in my life, I just believed in helping others and never was open to receiving help. At that time one of my teachers told me, it was my ego that was blocking to receive help. First, I did not believe but I did a lot of self-reflection and I did understand what my teacher was telling me. Yes, I was operating myself from a space of ego. Lesson in life is not about giving; it is also about receiving. I had cried a lot while watching this movie. I felt like heaven was trying to give me a message through this movie. It's one movie that never gets out of my head.
Second question, I will mention in very brief. The right now purpose of my life I feel is taking care of domestic affairs. To look after my family and take care of them.
