This year just began! What have you decided to release for a better year? Have you noticed any small wins from it yet? If it is too early, simply share what you chose to release
One thing I plan on releasing this year is envy and comparison and learning to be resourceful and adaptable
Last year, while I was in 300 level, there were so many things that got to me. It wasn’t like I allowed it to get to me, things just happened naturally, or it’s just something you can’t throw away or wish would outrightly disappear. I just knew I had to live with it and adapt my ways around it.
Early last year, I resumed school and had just bought a new laptop battery for my laptop. I had planned to use my laptop heavily because I was also writing my first medical board professional exams. I had a lot of past questions, soft copies of medical textbooks, and saved slides that I wanted to use. But a few days later, my laptop screen started having issues, it would display only lines, which rendered all my plans useless.
I started lamenting and panicking because I knew the situation at home. The financial situation was nothing appealing, and it was frustrating altogether. I had to stay calm and improvise because a call from home made me understand that there was no way I was ever going to fix my laptop screen.
As days went by, a lot of people in my class were buying laptops consecutively, and I got envious because there were brand new models that were really cool and helping their study life. Most times, I would just silently wish that I would have a better laptop someday. Yeah, sometimes wishes don’t come true, and I improvised with my phone during that period. Although it did not beat using a laptop, there was nothing I could do.
To crown it all, I had to find a way through by being resilient and resourceful, and not allowing things I didn’t have get to me. I remember those feelings making me unhappy and bitter toward people using them, but toward the end, I decided it wasn’t worth it, and I should focus on my own journey. There will always be challenges, but how we combat them matters.
With this, I was able to pass my first professional exams even though I never used a laptop. Not bragging, by the way, just that most times, there will always be challenges, and how we respond and view them is what really matters. In all, i learnt to focus on adaptability, resourcefulness and staying true to my journey
