Being a woman is like going on a journey. It means taking on many important roles that need hard work and strength. From finding a balance between taking care of a home and chasing a career, to being a sister, daughter, wife, and mom, there are lots of things to handle. This journey has its own victories and obstacles. Just
All these roles are hard work but none can be compared to the monthly menstruation cycle and the incredible experience of pregnancy.
Every woman's experience with menstruation is like her own special fingerprint. It's interesting how this natural process can show up in many different ways. From friends who endure nausea and appetite loss to those who experience heightened hunger and mood swings, each woman's experience is a testament to the diverse ways our bodies respond.
As for me, the lead-up to my period often brings cramps that commence days before the actual bleeding starts. This phase leaves me feeling weak and uninterested in food, seeking solace in solitude while tending to colds and cramps. The familiarity of my home becomes a haven during these days, as I frequent the restroom and with the routine of changing pads severally. Well, I kept up with this routine for a long while. Since, I work from home, it was a piece of cake until this very fateful day.
I had to go for a camping experience that happened to colide with my cycle. I paid for this camp meeting already, missing it was not even an option. I packed my bags and I was ready to enjoy myself at camp, my period not withstanding.
I embarked on the camping trip, optimistic and determined, regardless of my period's timing. Everything went smoothly until the final day of the event. Operating under the assumption that my five-day cycle was over, I found myself without a pad.
Suddenly, I felt a surprising gush of blood, reminding me that nature doesn't always follow a set schedule. Panic set in as I noticed the stain on my seat, a clear sign of what had happened. The embarrassment was so strong that it was hard to move from my spot, making me feel stuck. Fortunately, a chance for relief arrived when the presenter asked everyone to stand, giving me the perfect opportunity to quietly slip away to the restroom. I was more than embarrassed!
After that incident, I decided not to depend on my period calendar anymore. To avoid going through something like that again, I make sure to always have a pack of pads in my bag, just in case I need them or if another woman needs help. I wear regular pads for 5 days, and then use pant liners or short pads for light flow for another 3 days. It's all about being prepared and making sure things go smoothly.
In the face of this monthly challenge, I've also explored natural remedies to stop the pain and discomfort. Personal experimentation led me to discover the wonders of pineapples. Whether consumed as a fruit or boiled into a concoction using their peels, pineapples have become my monthly pills for cramps.
The comforting warmth of a hot water bottle on my stomach and the simple act of staying warm during my period have proven equally effective. While pineapples might not hold the same magic for everyone, the universal effectiveness of hot water remains an undeniable comfort. I know few of my friends who found solace in remedies such as jute leaves juice and watermelon consumption, or pills to counter the pain.
Though, I strongly recommend natural remedies, they work better. You don't have to be unproductive or embarrassed because of your cycle.
I very well know how much your cycle put you through monthly. But, I know you are stronger than you realize.
You got this girl!
