How I wish I could hop back to plane and be back in Hawaii. I think my mind and soul just want to be there!
I miss the food. Poke is one of my favorites.
Poke Market is another great favorite. It is so small that it only offers window service. Poke Market is run by Ernie Gray Jr., a former New York-trained chef. Poke may seem confusing to a first-time visitor to Hawaii. It is more than just serving fish over rice.
Poke literally translates to "chunk" in Hawaiian. In the past, poke was often any marinated meat or seafood chopped into little slices. Nowadays, when people talk about poke, they usually mean seafood. I do not know where the tradition began, although many agree that marinated seafood chunks have been consumed by locals for a long time. I've known poke my entire life and grown up eating it.
