I awoke to the sound of heavy rain falling on the roof of my truck. It's been 2 weeks now, of almost constant rain. Which don't get me wrong, has been such a blessing for the land. But after a while, I longed for drier days, so that I could send more time outdoors.
It's been interesting using my outdoor Kitchen, which is not sheltered, during this time. Most days, I get drenched, when I am out washing the dishes. I have given on using the oven, so everything is cooked indoors on the hob.
But just after 10, it stopped raining and over the course of the afternoon the sky even cleared and the sun finally came out for a few hours. Which has been great news for my solar and me. I do like to feel the sun on my skin and I have really missed it, these last few days.
With lifted spirits, I got about my day. Going through some things, cleaning up outside and finally finding the rest of my table, that blew away in the storm a week ago. It was on the edge of the neighbouring land, after landing quite close to the track.
I expected to find it in pieces, but some of the wood was still joined together. I can only imagine what that large piece of wood would have looked like, flying through the sky.
The movie, "The Wizard Of Oz", springs to my mind. When Dorothy's house is lifted off the ground by the tornado and she sees different objects flying next to her, in the sky. I am glad I was inside my truck though.
I hauled it back to the truck, the wood is wet and will probably crack as it dries in the sun. But let's see, maybe some of it can be saved.
It felt so good, to be active outside, once again. Everything looks so good as well, the land is finally breathing easy and the air feels super fresh. And then, there is the many different scents, magnified by this gift of many days of rain.
This time last year, it had still not rained since the beginning of the summer and it was so hard to watch the land suffer. so the sight now in front of me, was really a blessing.
After checking on my plants and emptying water out of some of their containers, I took the time to be still, to let the sun kiss my skin. So grateful for the rain, but oh so thankful for the sun.
I finally got a camera and took some photos today, but when I went to fid the cable to connect it to my laptop, it was no where to ben seen. So alas, I have no photos to share. I even managed to capture some lovely shots of raindrops on some of my kale, broccoli and ferns.
You just have to take my word for it unfortunately.
Tonight the sky is clear and full of stars, there is quite a chill in the air. But tomorrow looks set to be sunny all day and I can't wait. Let the Sun shine, I say.
