What’s In A Name?
To this day, some people still assume that I am male, because I have the word Truck in my username. Because we all know, only men get to play around with trucks, right? It does make me laugh, to be honest. It only goes to show, that some stereotypes are harder to let go of than others. And I am, all about breaking down barriers.
So what’s the story behind my name. Well I think it’s pretty obvious by now, that I live in a truck with my girls. However when I first joined Steemit, I was not a solo mama. A friend told me about the platform, I was interested, but also not really into computers. So spending time in front of a screen everyday, really didn’t appeal to me.
"Just take some time to explore the platform, you might be surprised by what you see", was the response I got.
To be honest, I found the platform very confusing at first, but then I began to find some amazing creators and discovered many posts, that I wanted to respond to. After a few weeks I decided to create an account. I got my ex to do it for me, because I just couldn’t get my head around the whole signing up process. He loves programming, so it was a piece of cake for him.
(Now however, it seems really simple, which really shows how much I have learnt)
“ what do you want to call yourself”, he asked. Hmmm, I really had to think about it, and I took a long time too, but still I couldn’t decide. So, in the end, we came up with the name trucklife-family together. I could always change it later, I thought. But no, that’s not an option, I was soon to learn. So here we are, 4 years later and trucklife it is. Would I change it now if I could, nah.
I quite like being called Truckie, by some of the wonderful folk on here and also I quite like, leaving some people guessing. Although it is pretty obvious once you go onto my blog, read my description and see my thumbnail. Also, I do like to write about my family life and lately I have been writing a lot more about my trucklife adventures, so all in all I think it is still very fitting.
I didn’t want to use my real name and it took me 3 years until I was ready to show my face. I really wanted to remain anonymous, but the more involved I became, the more I wanted to share who I really am. Including my name which you can find on my blog page. At the end of the day, I have nothing to hide, but everything to celebrate!
This I’d my response to the latest Ladies Of Hive Contest, where they asked us .......
