Hive created an opportunity for me to blog and earn and I literally didn't have to do anything but use my account. No hosting or maintenance fees and I get to express myself and make money? It blew my mind and I thought it'd blow people's minds when I told them about it. Well, I got a shocker.
People weren't as interested as I thought they'd be. Whenever I scroll through my WhatsApp stories, I see potential hive members that could offer great value here 'wasting' their content. Almost everyone I told about hive seems to think I was selling some pyramid scheme and had something to gain from onboarding them.
They always wanted to know when they'd get paid, how many people they'd need to refer and all that. I decided to switch up my strategy and target my friends with an interest in writing/creating. I remember the first one I talked to, it was her who first told me about the then steemit. She knew about hive after the fork but then she wasn't going to use it because the value wasn't close to what steem was in its glory days. That was my first fail.
I targeted more of my friends who have an interest in creating, writing or blogging. I had thought they'd be up and doing almost immediately they created their accounts because it's right up their alley but I was wrong. The easiest part was onboarding and the hardest was getting them to be consistent.
I've onboarded about six people and none of them actively uses their accounts. This makes me feel like a failure and I've lost the zeal to talk to any more people about hive. A friend of mine recently asked me about hive and I unintentionally ignored her messages because I felt she was just going to be like everyone else I onboarded. I got back to her though because I realized it was her coming to me about hive and not even me trying to sell it to her.
When I got onboarded on hive, I was lost because I didn't know what niches I'd fit into. Now there are more niches on hive and with a few clicks here and there, I think a newbie won't find it hard to acclimatize. I suggest communities I think people would fit in, encouraging them to read and indulge the posts of other members.
It's always so satisfying to see your recruit make their introductory post and them getting excited at the post payout. They're always like, "wow...just like that?" They write one or two more posts and that's it. I apply pressure, encouraging them to continue using their accounts but then it gets to the point where I start feeling like a bother and I undelegate my HP from their accounts.
My friend for example is an awesome writer, he expresses himself through poetry and does really cool graphic designs too, and I think he'd do well on hive seeing that he has all-round interests. He was quick to understand how hive works to an extent and had a good first impression after his first post but that hasn't kept him here.
My own brother is an artist and a photographer. He's not much of a writer but his art can do all the talking. I just assume his life is too fast-paced to find time to share his art here (??🤷♀️)
is another friend I onboarded three months ago. She likes talking to the camera and taking pictures. She says she wants to start her own blog also and I figured hive was a great starting point. Her last post was about two months ago though. Hopefully, she finds time out of her schedule to frequent here and explores more communities.
is one of my closest friends that I also onboarded three months ago. She's awesome at singing classical music and I was surprised when I saw she had posted her video through
without needing much help from me. She's also one of my smartest friends and I think she will have interesting content for the
community. Her last post was two weeks ago and I still encourage her to check in here.
Some people see hive as too much of a task and an obligation. My advice to them is just to have fun with it for a start. It can be complicated and discouraging when you first start but trust me, with some consistency, it doesn't take long to get the hang of it. It could be overwhelming but like with everything new, it's a learning process. I'm still learning myself and I try to be consistent. I've been on hive over a year and only learnt how to trade my crypto for fiat not too long ago on my own.
These days, I talk about hive in passing and a few people are interested but I don't push it. I think I'll focus on the people I already have here and assist them in every possible way I can.
Well, this ended up being a rant about how my recruits are not consistent but it's actually an answer to the Ladies of Hive contest question of the week. I invite and
to this contest.
