I had a free moment today and was downtown anyway because I had to return an inflatable kayak that didn’t inflate, so I decided to drop by some of the local places that invite people to put stickers on things…and smack down some stickers!
Satellite Bar and Lounge is one of my favorite of such places. Actually, they have like a symbiotic relationship with Block Taco, which is another favorite of mine.
Block Taco just has a little window for ordering food, with a kitchen directly behind the window. There a a couple of seats outside the window, but I mean seriously a couple as in maybe two.
Satellite, however, has couches and crazy decorations, an awesome bar, and a whole outback patio thing going on, with two cornhole setups, live music stage, and tons of benches. Some are in the shade, some are in the sun. One of the couches indoors has a stuffed bear next to it…my kids love it there and it’s a super kid friendly place…my kids have mixed feelings about the stuffed bear. They like that there’s a real bear they can pet, but they also feel sad that he was killed. I’m with them, its a mixed bag…but ultimately I’d be happier to know he’s still out there living free. Not a criticism of the venue, more of a side comment on sport hunting I guess.
…but anyway, because plastering stickers across town is such hard work, I employed the assistance of my youngest daughter…she’s basically a pro at putting stickers on things, so really it was a natural choice :)
Block Taco doesnt serve alcohol and Satellite doesn’t serve food, but they dont mind if you bring food in from outside, so the two places really work well together. I like the nachos with carnitas. I add heaps of jalepenos and like a gallon of their delicious habanero sauce. The carnitas is a braised pork thats been rubbed in brown sugar, coffee and cinnamon…its one of the greatest things I’ve ever tasted. After it’s braised it’s shredded/pulled, so it works perfectly on nachos. The sweet savory pork goes really well with the habanero sauce, and the habanero sauce naturally goes great with an icy tequila drink.
This weekend it was pretty hot, so I wanted something refreshing. I asked how their mojitos are, and the tender siad they don’t have mint. So instead I asked for a tequila with lime juice and simple syrup with a splash of tonic on ice…it hit the spot, mint or no 🤣
At Block Taco they have a truck with a statue of a donkey on the back. The truck is covered in stickers and the donkey is always sporting a sombrero and a poncho…if you’ve known me at all, you know that donkey has the same sense of style as me :)
Even though the truck is covered in stickers, I don’t know, it felt weird putting my sticker on someone else’s vehicle, so instead I put one in the crack of the kitchen window (they weren’t open yet at the time).
I headed back to my car to grab a pen; I was going to write on the back of the sticker “For the truck!” …but I bumped into the lady who was opening the kitchen for the day as I was on my way. I pulled my sticker out of the window and told her my plan, and she said it was fine to put a sticker on the truck, so me and little lady did one last sticker before heading home. It wasn’t in a great spot for taking pictures since they hadn’t yet flipped down the side gate…I’ll catch a shot of that next time I head downtown to get my fix of nachos and tequila :)
This was a lot of fun. My daughter and I enjoyed a nice game of “daddy grab my feet” on the way home. That’s where I drive the car and reach behind me to try and grab her feet, but she hides them in her car seat or swings them out of reach at the last second. She loved that game, and I owed her one after all the sticker-sticking she did for me! All in all, we got five stickers placed out there, and of course, there will be more in the future :)

has officially hard-forked.
is now the home for pretty much all acoustic singer/songwriter work.
I created a second account () in May 2023 to be my professional side. It’s a totally separate thing, strictly acoustic playing and singing. Because I don’t want to post duplicate material from two accounts, this account is now the home for all my acoustic singer/songwriter type stuff.
I’ll be using this as my account to share with bars and venues etc., so it will be a home for acoustic covers, live performances and auditions…pretty much, if I’m playing a stringed instrument amd singing, this is where I’ll be doing it…unless I’m doing it while operating a motor vehicle ;)
