In this post, I am sharing a continuation of my essay about My Teacher's Exchange Experience on 2007 at Plattsbourght, NY.

The mentor's support in my Fulbright Teacher's Exchange 2007.
As I mentioned before, the support from the mentor was very useful. It helped me better understand the teaching culture in the school. It made me aware of how to address the students, how to clarify the instructions for each activity, how to manage each area in the classroom, which in turn helped me learn the names (in Spanish) of all my students, and something very useful for the secondary level: how to vary activities in class and keep the students more engaged and active.
The mentor support days were also an opportunity to socialize and share our challenges as teachers and as individuals. There were two teachers being mentored, and we shared cultural aspects of Mexico, France, and the United States. The other teacher who needed the mentoring year was French. Our mentor was a teacher of Spanish and French (Jacquelin Germain). She had an incredible ability to keep the group completely quiet.
I also questioned my beliefs about the materials for teaching a foreign language. I had always been convinced that authentic materials were the most recommended for use in class. However, seeing that she did not hesitate to prepare her own materials and that the results were not negatively affected in essence, despite the small errors that could occur from not being a native speaker, convinced me that creating materials without being a native speaker was valid. Errors like ‘un rebajo’ instead of ‘una rebaja’ did not impact the communicative task.
On the other hand, it was also enriching for our mentor, as she often asked about expressions she did not know or did not know how to express in Spanish.

En este post estoy compartiendo una continuación de mi ensayo sobre mi Experiencia de Intercambio Fulbright de Maestros en 2007 en Plattsburgh, NY.

El apoyo del mentor en mi Experiencia de Intercambio de Maestros Fulbright
Como ya lo mencioné, el apoyo del mentor fue de mucha utilidad. Me ayudó a entender mejor la cultura de la enseñanza en la escuela. Me hizo ser consciente de cómo dirigirme a los chicos, cómo dejar claras las instrucciones en cada actividad, cómo controlar cada lugar en el aula que en consecuencia me hizo aprender los nombres (en español) de todos mis estudiantes, y algo de mucha utilidad para el nivel de secundaria: cómo variar las actividades en clase y mantener a los chicos más interesados en la clase así, como más activos.
Los días de apoyo del mentor también fueron una oportunidad para socializar y compartir nuestras dificultades como maestros y como personas. Éramos 2 maestros en el seguimiento del mentor. Y compartimos aspectos culturales de México, de Francia y de Estados Unidos. La otra maestra que necesitaba el año de mentor era francesa. Nuestro mentor era maestra de español y de francés (Jacquelin Germain). Tenía una habilidad increíble para mantener al grupo completamente callado.
También me cuestioné mis creencias sobre el material para enseñar una lengua extranjera. Siempre estuve convencido que el material auténtico era lo más recomendable para trabajarlo en clase. Sin embargo, al ver que ella no se detenía en preparar material por sí misma y que los resultados no eran afectados en su esencia, a pesar de los pequeños errores que pueden presentarse al no ser hablante nativo. Me convencí que elaborar material sin ser hablante nativo era válido. Errores como ‘un rebajo’ en lugar de ‘una rebaja’ no afectaban la tarea comunicativa.
Por otro lado, también resultó enriquecedor para nuestra Mentora, ya que ella también solía preguntar sobre expresiones que ella no conocía o no sabía cómo expresarlas en español.
