Today was an obnoxious day at work aside from the normal craziness. I assigned a group of people the task of creating some comic strips for a team builder. The idea is to use extreme, comical examples to point out the negative phrasing we use without realizing how it comes across in conversation.
For example, let's say you ask me if you can borrow my phone to make a phone call. I tell you, "No, it's dead and needs to charge for a bit first." That seems honest and straightforward, right? It's also a bit negative. Instead, what if I said, "Let me see if my wife's phone is free, since mine is still charging." That sounds much less negative and substantially more helpful, right?
Rather than have people try to draw their own, we decided to use Copilot to generate them. They'd send me their rough drafts and I'd make minor tweaks. It worked great until I spent at least 30 minutes trying different prompts to flip the orientation of a speech bubble and replace a character's headset with a cellphone. It kept repeating itself, making small unrelated tweaks that made each version's image quality progressively worse.
(Created with Bing)
I eventually gave up. I opened the stupid thing in Paint and did it myself. That's how pathetic Microsoft's AI is despite all of the money they dump into it. Heck, I even used Bing image creator to diss Copilot. You'd think Microsoft would have some sort of coding where they don't allow users to ask their software to make fun of themselves. It's so funny and so sad at the same time.
People claim AI will be the downfall of humanity. Honestly, I think Microsoft has a better chance of accidentally ushering in the apocalypse at this point from their incompetence.
