You read the title of this post? Did it resonate with you immediately?
I think one of the things that so many people can instantly connect with is that familiar sense of "I'm not good enough. Don't equate me with that"
And what is that?
Maybe for you - "that" is:
- accomplishment
- a level of achievement that seems beyond you
- a group of people you respect and admire.
- any number of things that we feel we haven't "reached" - just yet.
We tend to be really hard on ourselves, don't we? It feels like other people are patting us on the back or appreciating something we've done, and we simply can't SEE what they see.
There are a lot of labels and words out there these days that the media loves to throw around, and if you're into that - then you probably would recognize this as impostor syndrome, but that word is new - and this feeling is as old as time itself. It can be very difficult to step into a role and simply shoulder that weight with grace and dignity. I don't mind the responsibility, just don't ask me to FEEL like I deserve it! Is this resonating with anyone? haha
So then, why is that invitation with the #womentofollow summit up there, with my face up there for all to see - big, bright and bold? Well, because sometimes you need to PRACTICE those difficult things in order to start to feel comfortable tip-toeing into those intimidating arenas.
When asked me to be a part of this Web3 panel, I didn't hesitate! Why? Because I TRUST Jennifer (
). We have spoken many times together in shows and interviews and worked together on collaborations, and if she asked me to be a part of something - I automatically knew it was exactly where I would fit! It's a good thing that I didn't KNOW what it really was at first, or else I might have hesitated from intimidation! 😂 When we did our "tech check" last week in preparation for this event, I arrived light, bright and casual ... until she started mentioning that there were some "movers and shakers" - with whom I would be sharing that space!
I started laughing!
I put my head into my hands and just busted up laughing and said, "Jennifer - WHY AM I going to be there???" 🤣
"Because you belong there."
That might sound very simple - almost TOO simple, but it is absolutely true. Ladies (and gentlemen!) we need to STOP being afraid to simply show up and share what we know. I don't have to be an expert. I don't have to be on the same world stage as other presenters. I know what I know, and I'm passionate about helping people and the best thing that she ALSO shared...
"WE NEED to be there."
By the end of her encouraging words, I didn't just hear it. I believed it. There are so many people that NEED to stop waiting for others to do what THEY can do best. It's actually to my benefit (and to the benefit of the people I meet) that I'm not so far above the incoming crowd that I speak over them. I'm relatable, accessible, and I love to help. What we are doing at DreemPort is absolutely revolutionary! And though we are still small - we are GROWING and we are making ripples that will combine and become waves.
We are not flooding the "newbie" with so much information to crypto and blogging that we overwhelm and thin the crowd to a trickle. We are helping them to realize that they have the tools -RIGHT NOW - to share what they do in the way they know best, CONTROL their visibility, CONNECT with others like them, and find the COMMUNITIES to keep them thriving. She said that we are like the "on ramp" to the Web3 highway, but I remember how intimidating on-ramps were when I moved to California! haha I hope that DreemPort can be the TOUR BUS that glides you into the Web3 highway confidently on that ramp! All you need to do is find a cozy seat among friends. (how's that one ? 🤩)
After all that she shared, I realized she was speaking what I already knew in my heart, and now she was simply offering me a chance to share that on a bigger stage thanks to Pulitzer-nominated journalist , who founded the powerful #womentofollow movement. Rose's passion is to lift the voices of women in journalism and amplify them to where they need to be.
Sounds like I'm extremely confident now? Well, I'm practicing! I simply know that if you have something to share, you share. You don't have to do it perfectly, you don't even have to do it confidently. Be willing to share so that what you've learned along the way makes the journey a bit easier for those who come after you.
With that, I invite you to come be a part of it!
Perhaps there will be opinions you don't agree with - that's ok, we can listen. Perhaps there will be things you don't understand - that's ok, you can ask! Just show yourself and be counted at this event. It can be a powerful tool, but a tool is only as valuable as the person who is using it! I hope to see you there (even if only to see some familiar faces in the "crowd"!)
