UGU IS FORBIDDEN IN OKPANAM
So I made enquiries about why Okpanam indigenes don’t sell pumpkin leaf (ugu)( especially in their central market)
Truth is, I didn’t get enough solid facts about the history behind it. And with culture, you can’t just say anything. You have to be careful not to misrepresent people.
Okpanam is in Oshimili North local government Area, Delta State In Nigeria 🇳🇬
From the people I spoke to, what I gathered is that pumpkin leaf is used as one of the ingredients for preparing charms against thunder. They traditionally don’t eat it or sell it in their markets.
That is why you hardly hear of an Okpanam indigene being killed by thunder.

Some indegene do not believe ,while some do, some who did not grow up there still eat it..
Sometimes some market women hide to sell it but not openly..
I’m sure there’s more to it than this. Culture usually has layers.
