Becca didn't join the family in decorating the house for Christmas.
There was sadness written all over her face as she look through the penthouse window.
It's been three years since she broke up with her first love and she still finds it hard to give her heart to anyone.
A sharp knock on the penthouse door called her back to life and she quickly wiped her tears.
"Are you crying? Why are you sitting all alone when the whole family is busy decorating the house?", Alex asked as he walked up to her.
She turned her face away from him to hide the tears but her voice betrayed her.
"No, why would I?", Becca replied with a shaky voice.
A drop of tears escaped from her eyes, and Becca couldn't help herself so she began to cry.
Alex rushed to her side to console her but Becca pushed him away.
"I don't need your sympathy, he was your friend and you should have talked some senses into his head", she screamed and walked out of the room.
Becca left the penthouse in anger and Alex tried not to be mad at her.
He left the penthouse as well and felt bad because his younger sister disrespected him.
Later that evening, the family was still busy with decorations when they heard a motorcycle drive into their compound.
Alex went out to see who it was and it turned out to be a dispatch rider, he was carrying a package.
"Good evening", the dispatch rider greeted and Alex responded well.
The conversation went on for a few minutes before Alex called Becca to receive the package by herself as insisted by the dispatch rider.
She sluggishly walked down the stairs as she came for the gift.
"Why is the sender's name not there?", Becca asked but the dispatch rider had no answer.
She continued, "I got one last Christmas and the year before, I can't still figure out where it came from and I just had to put them in the store room. I am afraid I won't take this if the sender remains unknown".
Immediately after she finished, the dispatch rider dropped the package and drove out of the compound quickly.
"Hey Mr, man, come back here", Becca screamed but he was gone in the twinkle of an eye.
Alex was looking at her from a distance and he went to pick the gifts since Becca wouldn't touch them.
She walked past him in anger and Alex followed her.
"Becca", he called out to her as he stood at her door.
"It's open", she responded sharply.
Alex enter the room with the gift and she wasn't pleased with that.
"Why would you bring in those gifts, I don't want them. If someone is admiring me, he should be man enough to come to me instead of sending gifts every Christmas", Becca said angrily.
Alex dropped the gift at her door and went to sit by her side.
He touched her on the shoulder and said, " my dearest sister, you should learn to be patient. You know I want the best for you but when you do things in anger, the outcome is usually terrible".
"I am sorry I screamed at you, I feel like this every Christmas since I broke up with George. I miss him a lot because of my past Christmas celebration with him and I wish he could choose me over those girls he was chasing after then", Becca replied as tears gently came from her eyes.
Alex smiled and went to bring the gifts in. He gave Becca the box and told her to open it just to see what was inside.
He continued, "I am George's friend and I know him as I know myself. I wouldn't have allowed you to date any of my friends but George is different. He was the only one who didn't have a girlfriend while we were in the University and when he told me about you, I knew he truly loved you."
"You know how good he is to everyone and that's why you see ladies around him, he was never cheating on you".
Becca was sobbing as she gently opened the gift. She took out the things one after the other until she reached an envelope.
She raised her head to show Alex but he had left the room quietly.
Becca opened the letter and it turned out to be George's handwriting. She gently read it out, "two years passed now and I am still patiently waiting for your response because my heart longed for you. The past few years have been something else for me and I just wish we could get back together."
"I hope you give me chance again to prove myself again. I will be waiting for you on Christmas Eve at the same place like I have done every year, I love you".
Becca didn't believe George has been trying to reach out to her.
***"So he has been sending gifts every Christmas, why is he so dumb?
He could have just come here to apologize, I guess he doesn't know how much I missed him too"***, Becca murmured as she place the letter on her bed.
She quickly took her phone and tried reaching him but it didn't go through. She checked him on all social platforms but his last login was over a year ago.
Becca ran to Alex and asked for his contact but he didn't have it as well.
"We stop being friends after you broke up with him, I took your side and gave up my childhood friend for you. Moreover, he changed his line and stopped communicating with the other friends as well because we all rebuked him despite knowing he wouldn't cheat on you", her heart broke more after hearing what she caused.
"The previous gifts, I must find them", Becca screamed as she ran to the store room.
Alex followed and the other siblings joined them as well. They found the second package but the meeting place he spoke about wasn't there.
They started searching for the first one he sent but they didn't find it.
Days passed and Becca gave up after checking the whole house, no stone was left unturned.
"He should just call me", Becca said as she broke down into tears while reading through the letters in the packages again.
She couldn't eat, she tried making a few calls but couldn't get any useful information about George. He got a new job and even left his old residence, he ghosted everyone because those who heard Becca's story called him a cheat.
She gave up and was willing to hold the dispatch rider if he comes again but waiting an extra years look like forever.
A day before Christmas, Becca went to the market with her mother just to take her mind off George.
On getting home, her younger brother who went on a short trip had returned.
After greeting Becca, he stretched out a box to her.
"I took this from the store and I wanted to put a gift in it for my girlfriend but I found a letter in it. It was really touching so I decided to return it to you", Luke said with a faint smile.
Becca collected it and quickly ran through the letter. She was so happy knowing the location but became sad because it was evening already and there was no how she would meet up with time.
"What if he left there already?", she asked herself as she sank into the chair in the corridor.
"I am sure he will be waiting for you", Alex said while dangling his car keys.
Alex has been watching her and Luke already told him what was in the letter
Becca smiled and rushed to change her clothes. They left home almost immediately and Alex shared the location with his other friends as well.
Everyone was eager to meet George again so some of them went there as well.
They didn't arrive there on time, it was a long trip and she looked around with Alex but George was nowhere to be found.
She felt sad and sat at the entrance of the place. Alex was trying to cheer her up when the other friends arrived, they were disappointed George didn't wait.
Becca was lost in thought again and she suddenly heard her favorite song from the speaker in the lounge.
She listened carefully and told Alex that George was still around. Becca ran to the DJ stand and looked around from there.
She saw a guy walking into the hall in the hotel premises, his face wasn't visible but he had George's physic so she followed him quickly.
On getting into the hall, the place was dark.
She reached for her phone to use the light but the place was lit up instead. Becca was scared at first and she was surprised to see people in the hall.
George was right in front of her kneeling with a cake. He asked her, "will you give me a chance again?".
Becca couldn't help herself, she burst into tears and hugged him.
Alex and the other friends found their way to the hall and joined the hug.
George told them he planned the event every year hoping that she would show up someday. They were all happy to be back together and that Christmas was the best for Becca.
She married George and they lived happily after. Becca learned to trust him and it became clear that George has been faithful to her even when they weren't seeing each other.
I am using this opportunity to wish
, Ella, and many others a happy Christmas and New Year in advance.
