The Hindu goddess Kali is an incredible example of the power of the female and the duality of her nature. Facilitating the destruction which must occur for new life to rise, she is the ultimate mother, doing whatever must be done to protect those she loves. Her imagery clearly represents her duality as shown in all of her attributes including:
Her stuck out tongue
Her three eyes
The belt of severed arms
Her wild and free hair
Stepping on the chest of her husband
Because of her terrifying countenance and destructive nature, Kali has often been misunderstood. There was even an entire cult devoted to her, the Thuggee Cult, which contributed to these misunderstandings for almost 500 years. However, contemporary Hindu and Tantric teachings present the true Kali, a dualistic entity with all of the power of the mother and nature at her fingertips.
