This is my shower, normally when I enter it, the water is running. This morning I sprayed cleaner and went to scrub with that green pad with my foot, and I heard squishing sounds, like I was walking on wet carpet.
From day one I've felt the floor give when I walked in there, but I know there is padding under the bottom of tubs and showers.
I called a plumber, I had already opened the access hole but I can no longer get down there to even look.
5 yrs ago, I was able to crawl under there, when I installed the toilet
My current shower looks like this:
The plumbers were able to get this image from underneath
That white pipe is the shower drain; notice there is no "P" trap in that line... when I flush the toilet you can hear the water in the sewer line, because there is nothing between my shower drain and the sewer, As you can see in the first image I keep a round thing over the drain to help prevent smells and bugs from entering my space.
So I was given contact info for a "Remediation" company. They are reaching out to my homeowners insurance. They say the cost of repair (remove the old shower and replace the flooring and drains) will be over $5000.00 USD
My deductible is $1000.00 USD. So IF the insurance covers it, I will still be out $1K
I would LIKE to replace it with a walk in tub, like this:

So until I know more, I will be forced to bathe in the old 1940's bathroom up front.
