Eggs, lilies and Easter bread are part of the celebration of Easter.
Calla lilies are associated with the resurrection of Christ, as they bloom around Easter and have a shape resembling a trumpet, to remind Christians of the celebration of the day.
When I see calla lilies I can't help but hear Katherine Hepburn's famous line from the 1937 film Stage Door. "The calla lilies are in bloom again"
These were brown eggs, dyed with turmeric, a bit of glitter powder, and polished with oil to make them look festive!
This isn't a traditional Easter bread that is generally made with white flour and yeast.
These breads were made with an equal amount of low fat cottage cheese, cornmeal and oat flour. Egg yolks and whipped egg whites were added separately, Then baking powder, vanilla, raisins, walnuts and orange zest.
Only the topping was traditional, made of powdered sugar, lemon juice and egg white. That added some sweetness, since the dough didn't have any sugar in it.
It was a lovely Easter! My son and I watched the F1 race, texting back and forth, while my daughter in law took a walk to the lake with her camera. More photos to come tomorrow! Even though we were not all together, sending photos and texting is the next best thing!
