Lent (video) + Cuaresma [Eng+Spa] 2025-03-06

We being Lent.

It is a period of the Christian liturgical calendar that lasts about 40 days. And, in religious tradition, it is a period of preparation for Holy Week, or more specifically, the 'Easter Triduum'. One of the peculiarities of the Lent period is the fasting ritual every Friday, until the time before Easter week is over.

In reality, there are many things to tell about this time and its rituals, but that would take me down another path in the post, different from the one I want to share today. You see, I started playing with an AI application on my mobile, it was one that specializes in video creation and editing: Fliki.ai.

I have a little experience designing instructions (prompt), to generate images or music on some platforms, which use different AI agents or models. But, I haven't practiced this much in the area of ​​video generation, the most I had done before was a simple animation of a head singing a song, a song that had been generated by another different app.

Well, considering today's date, it occurred to me to propose a prompt that addressed the topic of Lent, with a special focus on Hispanic American culture (my reference culture). I indicated that it be narrated by a voice generated in Spanish, that its music and background images were all generated by AI as well.

I didn't even dictate a specific script, I only indicated a general guideline of what I wanted the video to achieve. Indicating an educational, pastoral approach, and for a population of various ages.

The result left me with some impressions. On the positive side, the generated voice is good (despite its accent and rhythm that makes me feel like it's a foreigner speaking Spanish), the images created fit well with the themes and the speech, and the narrative thread was well-designed (even with a very warm final message, suitable for a religious and family tradition).

The poor (or no well) parts, I think, were more the responsibility of my inexperience than anything else. The text that accompanied the narration was in English, even though the audio was in Spanish, which created a disparity. I was thinking of generating a completely English version later, but after seeing my result I realized that I need to learn a little better before designing another prompt. I didn't manage to give movement to the narrator, and I feel that the video was weak in some parts. Luckily, it is a 1 minute and 34-second video, so its duration doesn't seem too long to me and the pace can be skipped without any major problems.

I was a little surprised that, with relatively few instructions, the app was able to generate a fairly acceptable video. Well, it's acceptable as a first step in learning, I still have a lot to learn and practice.

Iniciamos la Cuaresma.

Es un periodo del calendario litúrgico cristiano que tiene una duración de unos 40 días. Y, en la tradición religiosa, es un periodo de preparación para la Semana Santa, o más específicamente, el ‘triduo pascual’. Una de las particularidades del periodo de Cuaresma es el ritual de ayuno cada día viernes, hasta que se cumple el tiempo previo a la semana de Pascua.

En realidad, hay muchas cosas para contar de este tiempo y sus rituales, pero eso me llevaría a otro camino en el post, diferente al que quiero compartir hoy. Tú verás, me puse a jugar con una aplicación de IA en el móvil, se trataba de una que se especializa en creación y edición de vídeo: Fliki.ai.

Tengo un poco de experiencia diseñando instrucciones (prompt), para generar imágenes o música en algunas plataformas, que usan distintos agentes o modelos de AI. Pero, no he practicado mucho esto en el área de generación de vídeos, lo máximo que había hecho antes era una animación simple de una cabeza que cantaba una canción, canción que había generado otra app distinta.

Bien, considerando la fecha de hoy, se me ocurrió plantear un prompt que abordara el tema de la Cuaresma, con especial enfoque en la cultura hispanoamericana (mi cultura de referencia). Indique que fuera narrado por una voz generada en español, que su música e imágenes de fondo fueran todas generadas por IA también.

Incluso, no le dicté un guion específico, solamente le indiqué una pauta general de lo que quería que lograra el video. Señalando un enfoque educativo, pastoral, y para población de diversas edades.

El resultado me dejó con algunas impresiones. Por la parte buena, sucede que la voz generada está bien (a pesar de su acento y ritmo que me hace sentir que es un extranjero hablando español), las imágenes creadas encajan bien con los temas y con el discurso, y el hilo narrativo estaba bien diseñado (incluso con un mensaje final muy cálido, y adecuado para una tradición religiosa y familiar).

Las partes deficientes, creo que fueron más responsabilidad de mi impericia que de otra cosa. El texto que acompañaba a la narración estaba en inglés, a pesar de que el audio estaba en español, eso generaba una disparidad. Yo pensaba generar luego una versión absolutamente en inglés, pero luego de ver mi resultado me planteé que necesito aprender un poco mejor antes de diseñar otro prompt. No logré darle movimiento al narrador, y siento que el vídeo quedó flojo en algunas partes. Por suerte es un vídeo de 1 minuto y 34 segundos, con lo que su duración no me parece mucho y el ritmo puede pasarse sin mayores problemas.

Me sorprendí un poco de que, con relativamente pocas instrucciones, la app pudo generar un vídeo bastante aceptable. Bueno, es aceptable como primer paso de aprendizaje, aún me queda mucho por aprender y practicar.
