Yesterday was one of those days when nature reminded us how powerful it can be. Typhoon Ada brought nonstop rain, strong winds, big waves from the sea, and very cold weather. From morning until night, we stayed inside the house because it wasn’t safe to go out. The wind was so strong that it made our windows and doors noisy, as if they were shaking with every gust. It was honestly a bit scary, especially at night. 🙏
Because of the typhoon, our whole community experienced a blackout. No lights and no internet. I wasn’t able to post here on Hive, and even simple things like checking messages or updates were impossible. The electricity only came back this afternoon, and I felt so relieved the moment the lights turned on. It made me realize how much we take these small conveniences for granted.
Since the weather was bad, I wasn’t able to sell any food. There were no customers at all because everyone was staying at home. Even my ice candy didn’t sell because it became soft due no electricity. Our small store was very quiet. No voices, no footsteps, just the sound of the wind and rain outside. Still, I reminded myself that safety is more important than sales. 🙏
Despite everything, I am truly grateful because we are all safe. No one in the family got hurt, and thankfully, there were no damages to our house. Today, the weather is much better. The rain has stopped, and there’s only a little wind left. The sea is slowly calming down too. Maybe tomorrow, my father can go fishing again if the weather continues to improve. 🙏
Since my father couldn’t go fishing yesterday and today, he decided to look for seashells instead. After a typhoon, the sea often brings different kinds of shells closer to shore. It’s something that usually happens only after strong weather disturbances, so it feels like a hidden blessing. 🙏❤️
He was able to gather a lot of seashells. Seeing the basin full made us all smile because we already knew it would be our viand for the day.
After bringing them home, he boiled the seashells until they were cooked.
Once boiled, he carefully removed the meat from the shells and cleaned them thoroughly. It took time and patience, but he didn’t complain. After that, he cooked the seashell meat as Adobong kinason, simple but very delicious. 😋❤️
That became our viand today. Free food, fresh, and straight from the sea. It felt extra special knowing that it came after the storm, as if nature was giving back after the hardship. These kinds of blessings don’t happen every day, it usually comes only after a typhoon.
Living near the sea really teaches us gratitude. Even after bad weather, there is still something to be thankful for. The sea may be rough and scary at times, but it also provides and sustains us when we need it most. ❤️🙏
I’m thankful for my family, for our safety, and for these simple meals shared together. Days like this remind me that even in difficult moments, blessings still find their way to us, sometimes quietly, sometimes in unexpected forms. ❤️🙏
