(Imagine we’re sitting across from each other with a cup of tea — I’ll walk you through the exact little things I do before every post.)
You know that jittery moment before you press Publish? Same. I used to rush it and regret the typos, bad image, or wrong tags later. Over time I built a tiny ritual — a pre-publish checklist that saves me embarrassment and actually gets more eyes and votes on my posts. I’m going to give it to you in plain, usable steps. Keep it beside you until it becomes second nature.
1) Re-read your title is it a scroll-stopper?
Read your title. Does it make you click? The titles are short, precise, and value or emotion oriented.
Tips on quick titles:
Use curiosity: I Tried 5 AI Tools This One Surprised Me
Numbers: 7 Small Habits that Have grown my Hive Earnings
Appeal to emotion: The Sunday That Healed Me A Food Story
In case you feel your title is weak, rewrite it. The more attractive title = the greater number of clicks.
2) Open the initial 2-3 lines these should hook
The top lines are previewed on Ecency/Hive. Put them to count. Begin with a short story, a shocking fact or a question.
Do this:
Just make your first line one sentence that hooks.
Provide the reader with a rationale to read more.
Example intro:
I nearly lost my best plate in my life--because I waited on him. Now this is what I learned.”
3) Check formatting for readability
Long walls of text = people scrolling away. Break content into bite-size pieces.
Checklist:
Use short paragraphs (1–3 sentences).
Add headings (##) for sections.
Use bold or italics for important lines.
Add blockquotes if you have a standout line.
This makes your post friendly to skim-readers — and most readers skim first, then read.
4) Image: one strong cover, one in-body image
Visuals stop the scroll. Your first image is the thumbnail — choose carefully.
Image rules:
Use a high-quality image (no blurry phone pics if you can help it).
Make the image relevant to the post (not generic stock).
Use a 16:9 or 4:3 crop — Ecency previews nicely with those.
Add your small watermark or handle in the corner (optional).
If you can, include one in-body image to break text and add emotion.
5) Tags: your first five matter most
Ecency/Hive counts the first 5 tags. Think like an SEO and a human.
How I choose tags:
Main platform: ecency or hive
Community tag: hive-naija, cinetv, inkwell (whatever fits)
Niche tag: movies, books, anime, writing
Intent tag: review, thoughts, guide
Flavor tag: naija, life, travel, food
Example for a food story:
hive, naija, food, travel, story
Tip: Keep tags lowercase, no spaces.
6) Community selection — place it where your people hang out
Communities are audience shortcuts. Post in a community that matches your content. If multiple communities fit, choose the most active one where your niche lives.
Examples:
Movie review → CineTV
Personal essay → Thoughts & Life or Blogging Challenge
Food/travel → NaijaFood or Foodlovers (if they exist)
Posting in a relevant community increases early engagement and helps your post get noticed.
7) Payout option — choose with intent
Choose: 50/50 (HBD/HP split) or 100% Hive Power (stake)
Select 50/50 if you want some liquid HBD in there.
Choose 100% HP if you’re going for long term influence.
Choose from what aligns with your objectives today.
8) Say it out loud — find bad lines
Seriously — reading aloud finds odd grammar, duplicate words, and tone issues. If something trips your tongue, it’s also going to trip your reader.
If you mess up correct the sentence.
9) Include 1 clear call-to-action (CTA)
Say to readers what you want them to do in one sentence. Don't be afraid.
Examples:
“Save this checklist & use it right before every post.”
“Write a title here — I’ll help rephrase one.”
“Comment below with a moment like this.”
If it's a good CTA it increases comments and saves.
10) Quick meta-check (5 things in 60 seconds)
Run this mini-scan before publish:
Title ✅
First 2 lines ✅
Tag list (first five) ✅
Cover image ✅
CTA visible ✅
If all five are green, you’re ready.
11) Timing — think about your audience
If your readers are mostly in Nigeria, aim for 3–6 PM WAT on weekdays or 5–8 PM weekends. If global, test morning UTC. Track what works, then repeat.
Pro tip: Post when you can be online for 30–60 minutes to engage with early comments.
12) Promote immediately
Hoping is not enough, share. Create a one line teaser and a shortened link. Send it to:
Twitter/X (thread tease)
WhatsApp status / groups
Telegram channel
Focused Reddit subs (value-first, not spam)
A good share shortly after publish increases views and indicates algorithms.
13) Respond to each comment (at least 1 hour)
It is the magic here. Early = greater visibility. Respond in a kind manner, pose follow-up questions, and pin a considerate response.
14) Save and re-use
In a few days make the post:
A Twitter/X thread
Short video or reel
An Instagram image quote
Part 2 of this follow-up post on Ecency
Repurposing introduces new viewers to original post.
Quick Copyable Checklist (Paste & Use)
Strong title ✅
Hooky first 2 lines ✅
Short paragraphs & headings ✅
Good cover image ✅
First 5 tags chosen ✅
Community selected ✅
Payout option set ✅
Read aloud & fix ✅
Clear CTA added ✅
Post at best time & share ✅
Reply to comments fast ✅
Repurpose later ✅
If you keep this little ritual, your posts will start performing better — more clicks, more votes, more comments. Trust me, the internet rewards the small habits.
One last thing (because I always forget): before you hit publish, breathe. A deep breath helps you catch mistakes and sends a calm signal to your fingers.
Save this checklist and use it before each post.
