Hey Peeps!
The National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom has created a special unit called the "National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU) Crypto Cell".
This specialized task force will focus primarily on investigating cryptocurrency-related crime.
The NCA's annual report highlights crypto playing a part in "high-end money laundering", and that seizures of crypto from criminal activity has increased from £0 to nearly £30 million since last year.
"With no change in the volume of illicit funds from crimes such as drugs and fraud, tried and-trusted methods of money laundering continued. Criminals increasingly exploited financial technology and crypto assets, and adapted to Covid-19 travel restrictions." - National Crime Agency
If you are curious you can check out this job listing by the National Crime Agency for a Cryptocurrency Investigator:

Also, here is a recruitment video for the new NCCU that was released last year:
"Domestic and international criminals have for years laundered the proceeds of their crime and corruption by abusing UK company structures, and are increasingly using cryptocurrencies. These reforms, long awaited and much welcomed, will help us crack down on both." - Graeme Biggar, Director General of the National Crime Agency
Crypto-related crime is not that new, but having a crime unit specifically focused crypto crime isn't that common, at least to my knowledge.
I am hopeful that the individuals that would be taking these jobs are doing so with a mindset to keep crypto safe from scammers, and maybe recover customer assets which may have been stolen.
